Will players be able to fly in WoW: Shadowlands again? Blizzard has already answered the question, but BlizzCon attendees were not satisfied.
At BlizzCon 2019, there was again a “Q&A” with the developers of World of Warcraft. Besides some questions about the story and WoW: Classic, it also covered the newly announced expansion “Shadowlands”. And what topic is burning at the community more than the question of flying?
Will players be able to fly in Shadowlands? The moderator wanted to know from the developers if players can fly in WoW: Shadowlands again and if so, under what conditions that will happen. Ion Hazzikostas, the Game Director, promptly answered this question. Yes, players will be able to fly in Shadowlands again, and the unlocking will be just like it was in previous expansions.
Loud boos and dissatisfaction: Right after the answer, you could hear a mix of applause and boos, although the negative voices were clearer and more prominent at that moment. Hazzikostas explained that this very mix in the community led to them continuing down this path. There is no solution that satisfies all players, which is why the developers stick to the current system. It is a compromise that both sides have to live with.
What does this mean for players? For players of WoW: Shadowlands, it means they will likely have to complete a multi-part “Pathfinder” achievement again. Typically, you have to:
- Complete all quest lines of all new areas
- Have a Respectful reputation with all new factions
- Reveal the entire map of the Shadowlands
- Complete 100 current world quests
Whether the requirements in Shadowlands will be identical remains to be seen. At least the basic principle will likely be the same. This would also mean that flying cannot be unlocked with Patch 9.0, but only at a later time (perhaps Patch 9.1 or Patch 9.2).
