The two new weapons from Season 6 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone are broken and “overpowered”. The developers have announced a revision, but many players want to keep the weapons as they currently are.
Update 9:00 PM: The promised patch has since been released. You can find the patch notes here.
What is the problem with the weapons? The two new firearms that came with the start of Season 6 for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone have both interesting features that were not intended:
- The assault rifle AS VAL can shoot through multiple walls – SPP 10-S magazine is broken
- The DMR SP-R 208 has no bullet drop – .338 Lapua Mag 5-R magazines make it possible
The developers have now announced that they will address the overpowering characteristics of the guns. However, many players are not happy about this.
Developers Announce Weapon Adjustments for AS VAL & SP-R 208
What do the developers say about it? The community manager Ashton Williams commented on the matter on Twitter:
Williams says here: “We are currently testing a patch that will revise the AS VAL & SP-R 208. Depending on unforeseen issues, we will release it as soon as possible.”
While she does not specifically say that the two broken ammunition attachments of the weapons will be revised, many players now expect the adjustment of the OP attachments. This can be seen in the comments on the tweet, but not everyone agrees with it.
Players Disagree on Whether It Is Even Necessary
How do players react? In fact, many people in the comments feel that the adjustments are unnecessary. Both the AS VAL and the SP-R have defenders:
- @Invikari on Twitter: “Why are you changing the guns? AS VAL is good as an SMG and the 10-round magazine has its advantages but also disadvantages and loses to almost every weapon. SP-R is a DMR, only good at short ranges and is inaccurate at long distances, unlike sniper rifles. The guns are perfect.”
- @KKaptivee on Twitter: “The SP-R 208 should not be nerfed. It gives players new opportunities for how they can play in Warzone and is well balanced with regard to the assault rifle meta. Don’t you want a game with good balance?”
- @alexmurray772 on Twitter: “No! Don’t nerf a weapon! Why did it take an entire season to nerf the Origin 12, but for a weapon we are currently having fun with, you throw a nerf out after a week?”
The majority of comments under the tweet lean in this direction. However, there are also some players who think the decision is correct:
- @CTiz27 on Twitter: “This should be fixed as soon as possible. Search & Destroy is currently impossible to play.”
- @reaperreapzz on Twitter: “Thank you for this. I can’t even express how frustrating these two weapons are right now. Either you get shot through a wall or taken out by a one-shot hit from the SPR.”
- CoD YouTuber JGOD on Twitter: “I’m glad you at least recognized that there is a problem.”
When the patch will come and what the adjustments will look like is not yet known. However, the reactions show that it is a sensitive topic and that the “OP weapons” are not perceived the same way by everyone.
What do you think about the issue? Should the patch come as soon as possible or are the weapons all right for you? By the way, the beta of Cold War starts today on PlayStation.
