In Warframe you can fish in the Plains of Eidolon. But how do you get the equipment to catch fish, and where are the best fishing spots? Find out in the comprehensive Fishing Guide!
The Plains of Eidolon in Warframe make the co-op shooter feel more like an MMO. And as everyone knows, an MMO is only complete when you can catch fish in it. It goes without saying that you can now fish as your Tenno. But how does it work exactly?
Fishing Basics – Here is where you can find the Fisher Shop
Fishing is currently only possible in the new open-world map “Plains of Eidolon”. Before you can embark on your first fishing trip, you need to make a few preparations. First, you need fishing equipment. To do this, go to the fisherwoman Hai-Luk in the city of Cetus. On the map, you can find Hai-Luk at the fish symbol in the bazaar.
At Hai-Luk, you can do three things:
- Buy fishing equipment, such as bait and spears
- Purchase fish components directly for Platinum (real money currency)
- Sell or process fish. This way, you can acquire the coveted fish resources like fish oil and other goods.
How to Get Your First Fish Spear
First, you need suitable fishing equipment. As a Tenno, you don’t fish with a flimsy rod. Instead, a true space ninja uses a harpoon spear to hunt aquatic creatures.
In the shop with Kai-Luk, there are three different spears that you can trade for reputation points with the Ostron. Each spear has a specific type of fish that it can harpoon with one strike. If you have the wrong spear, you need to hit multiple times, and the fish is likely to escape. So it’s best to take all three spear types with you as soon as you can afford them.
- Lanzo: 500 Reputation – This spear is best for smooth fish
- Tulok: 2,000 Reputation – With this spear, you skewer armored fish
- Peram: 7,500 Reputation – Scaly fish fear this spear!
For your first fishing trip, a Lanzo should be more than enough. So you are a “Lanzo main”.
Small Guide to Baits and Colors
In addition to the spears, there are further items for the budding fisher at Hai-Luk:
- Bait (Blueprints): Using bait can significantly increase the spawn rate of fish. To use bait, you need to throw it into the water, ideally in bubbling sources, to attract certain fish. Bait lasts for 30 seconds. By the way, you don’t need them to catch any fish; they are just useful! There are two general baits and various baits that attract specific fish:
- Spicy Bait: Attracts all fish during the day
- Dusk Bait: Attracts predatory fish both day and night
- Special Bait: This bait ensures that a specific fish spawns.
- Colors (Blueprints): Colors make it easier for fish to be seen or caught.
- Bright Color: Colors the water so you can spot fish better. Essential at night!
- Pharoma: This color stuns fish, making them slower and easier to catch.
- Fish Trophies (Blueprints): You can acquire these items as blueprints and then craft a trophy for your ship along with the corresponding fish. You can then proudly display your fishing accomplishments.
The Fishing Spots and Fish Species
Once you have your spear and possibly also colors and bait, you need to load the stuff into your equipment menu. Don’t forget that, otherwise, you might find a good fishing spot and have no spear packed!
Fish are in the water, and in the Plains of Eidolon, you have three different water bodies, each hosting different fish:
- The large lake directly north of Cetus:
- Charc Eel (Any spear): Common, but mostly active at night
- Mouthfish (Any spear): Common during the day
- Norg (Peram): Only at night with bait
- The smaller ponds in the land:
- Khut Khut (Any spear): Common during the day
- Yogwun (Any spear): Common during the day
- Mortus Lungfish (Lanzo; Peram): Rare during the day, common at night
- Cuthol (Peram): Only at night with bait
- The sea:
- Goopola (Any spear): Common at all times
- Sharrac (Lanzo; Tulok): Only with bait, but available at all times
- Tralok(Tulok; Peram): Common during the day
- Karkina (Lanzo; Tulok): Rare at all times
- Murkray (Lanzo): Only with bait, but available at all times
- Glappid (Peram): Only at night with bait
How to Fish in Warframe!
Once you find a good fishing spot, first ensure that no enemies disturb you. Because then no fish will come out. Then, position yourself with the harpoon on the shore or jump on the small rocky islands in the water. Go into zoom mode and listen for bubbling sounds. That is a good sign for nearby fish. So it’s best to turn off the music so you can hear the fish even better!
If you discover a fish in the water, you just need to hit it with the (appropriate) harpoon, and if you have the right spear, the little fish should soon be yours. However, remember that you need to lead a bit with the harpoon. If you throw it off target, you scare away the fish, which then dart around wildly and may completely disappear.
By the way, keep in mind that the powers of your Warframes can sometimes help when fishing. For example, fish are very visible when swimming in Frost’s snow globe. Ivara can also remotely control harpoons like all projectiles, and Banshee’s sonar makes fish much more visible as well.
