Some fans may have been excited that they could finally try out ARK 2 at gamescom (spelling as such). But XBOX has apparently called off the whole thing.
What was announced? In a blog post (via xbox.com), XBOX announced what their program looks like during gamescom. They also published which games attendees can try out as demos at their booth.
Included were titles from other providers like Star Wars Outlaws, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, and Space Marine 2, but ARK 2 was also on the list. Surely a reason for fans to cheer, as the game was announced in 2020 and is set to be released at the end of this year.

All just a mistake
What kind of retreat has XBOX made now? After the announcement of the program including the list of games was already published, there was a subsequent change. The list of playable titles was altered, and the demo for ARK 2 disappeared.
A footnote at the bottom of the page explains: “ARK 2 was originally listed as playable at the Xbox booth – this mention was a mistake and has been removed.”
The fact that a playable demo was to be shown at gamescom came as a surprise. For some time now, there has been a lack of signs of life from the game, especially since the release is still planned for this year. The last video on ARK 2, for instance, was posted on YouTube in 2022.
Do players still believe in ARK 2? Players’ hopes for ARK 2 have diminished over the years. In the Steam forum for the game, there are dozens of posts and comments criticizing not only the development but also the direction that the gameplay should take.
