Since today, October 1, 2019, Early Access for Ghost Recon Breakpoint is available for owners of the Gold Edition or higher. The first reviews from players are piling up. Some of them are quite bad and one-sided – and annoy those who just want to play.
How is Ghost Recon Breakpoint received? At the moment, many players are simply having fun with the new Ghost Recon Breakpoint. It launched today, October 1, at exactly 00:00 in Early Access and anyone who has purchased at least the Gold Edition can already play.
However, the general tenor is quite divided. On one hand, players who just want to play are having fun. In Twitch chats and also on reddit, they often express that they simply enjoy playing. Metacritic users have even rated the game 7.9 (PS4, 22 votes) and 8.9 (Xbox, 9 votes).
On the other hand, however, there are also some critics who complain about various aspects of the game. This criticism is currently threatening to flood social channels like reddit and annoy those who are having fun significantly.
Players are annoyed by constant criticism
What is being criticized? As already mentioned in the first impressions of the Ghost Recon Breakpoint beta, players are complaining about various aspects of the game. These include:
- Bugs
- The loot system and other gameplay elements
- Monetization
Especially the last point angers many people. There are highly rated posts on reddit where players report on the shop, and others mock that it is the main thing that the real-money shop works well. Everything else is secondary.
This is how fans react: Those who are having fun want nothing to do with such criticism and the sheer number of new posts. They accuse the critics of purposely looking for problems to rant about the game in the “Ghost Recon” subreddit.
A highly rated post with nearly 700 upvotes addresses the toxic environment. The user davidpiksi urges the critics to keep their criticism constructive and not just bash the game.
In his thread, many people agree. Breakpoint may not be a perfect game, but it provides enough fun to keep them engaged. Especially compared to the beta, several things have improved, such as:
- an improved difficulty
- better handling of vehicles
- randomly appearing patrols in the world
Another user even sarcastically demanded a dedicated subreddit for people who actually like Breakpoint and don’t want to read all the negativity.
No new phenomenon
This has happened before: Breakpoint is not the first game to have such a situation. Similar to or even stronger criticism has been directed at Anthem or Fallout 76.
Many people suspect that influencers like Skill Up are influencing opinion in the community with their negative reviews of Breakpoint, which is why many players may not want to like Breakpoint from the start. The same accusations were directed at Skill Up regarding Fallout 76.
For Fallout 76, it took a long time for the community to sort out the “haters” and the players who really like the game. Breakpoint may have better chances here, as players are already engaging as mediators and the criticism isn’t as loud.
