Surprisingly positive mood: Just a few hours after the first players started with the early access of Origin Access Premier on November 8, the first reviews were already in.
Despite numerous controversies, such as the women debate and the sometimes harsh criticism directed at Battlefield 5, the initial ratings are surprisingly positive.
This is what the press says: Battlefield 5 scores an impressive 86 points on Metacritic. The 8 reviews published so far are all positive. For comparison: The highly praised direct competitor Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 scored 87 points on release day.
This is what the players say: Currently, there are no user reviews on Metacritic yet. However, first players are also expressing mostly positive opinions about Battlefield 5 on Reddit.
The reddit user sepltbadwy summarizes the mood there quite well. In his thread, he says he expected a wreck and was surprised in many ways by how good Battlefield 5 is. Not bad for something that people thought would implode.

Hobby Consolas – An Impressive Shooter
The highest rating so far comes from the site Hobby Consolas. They awarded 91 points and said:
“An impressive shooter, both in terms of gameplay and technical perspective, which lacks content at launch. However, many new maps, modes, and weapons (free for everyone) are promised for the coming months.”
AusGamers – No More Community Splits
The Australian site Aus Gamers is also taken by Battlefield 5 and rates the latest installment of the Battlefield series a solid 90 points. It states:
“If you are a Battlefield fan who didn’t like that DICE has been playing it safe lately, then Battlefield 5 is made for you. I am one of those people and can hardly wait to dive into the epic sessions of a game that could quickly become my favorite Battlefield title – especially since the community will no longer be divided by future content.”
Digital Chumps – More Content than Many Expect
The site Digital Chumps has also awarded a high rating of 90 points for Battlefield 5. They justified it as follows:
“Battlefield V has much more content to offer than many might expect. The War Stories provide meaningful experiences in small doses, the maps of the game are huge and well designed, the modes offer more entertainment compared to Battlefield 1.
The customization and progression system will keep people engaged for a long time and provide additional motivation. It feels like a Battlefield game that should dispel concerns about insufficient launch content.”
PCGamesN – Battlefield 5 Offers the Best Singleplayer Campaign in the Series
PCGamesN also joins the 90-point score. The site states:
“Battlefield V offers the best single-player campaign in the Battlefield series to date, highlighting the horrors of war from rare perspectives. This tension also extends through the multiplayer, which, through the adjustments, unmistakably reminds you of your vulnerability.”
CG Magazine – A Fantastic Shooter
The CG Magazine gave the lowest rating of all – yet still a respectable 80 points. This is how they view the latest Battlefield installment:
“Despite the bad press at the beginning, I have great confidence in DICE as a developer. After they listened to the community and took its feedback seriously, they delivered a fantastic shooter with Battlefield 5 this year.”
