Just before the release of the GeForce RTX 2080 Super, the first benchmark leak occurred: In a benchmark test, initial numbers have appeared that estimate the performance of the 2080 Super. How does the new card perform?
In early July, Nvidia’s first new Super graphics cards were released as a counter-attack against AMD’s RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT. The new Super models from Nvidia slightly differentiate themselves from the new Radeon cards. The 2080 Super is announced as the third Super model and is supposed to be stronger than the previous Super models. The performance and capabilities of the 2080 Super are still unknown, and only the technical specifications are available.
Does a leak provide information about the 2080 Super?
But just before the release, a leak from FinalFantasyXV provides initial data to assess the 2080 Super. Below, we want to explain:

Where does the leaked benchmark of the 2080 Super come from?
The leaked benchmark comes from FinalFantasyXV. Here, SquareEnix offers the opportunity to view how the performance of its graphics card compares to other graphics cards. These are average values calculated from all tests, which can be influenced by other components.
Instead of specifying the frame rate, the benchmark from FinalFantasyXV calculates a score that represents the overall performance of the system. Below 2000 points, the system is below the minimum. 3000 to 4500 is the default setting. From 6000 points, the player can also use the demanding graphics settings.
Also, note that the data only apply to FinalFantasyXV and you cannot infer it to other games. More accurate data on performance and how the graphics card performs in other applications is expected to be available on July 23. Below, we refer to the resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels in high-quality settings.
How does the 2080 Super perform in the benchmark?
In the benchmark at high settings in WQHD, the new Turing card scores 8068 points, placing it in fifth position on the list. There is also a significant difference to the new mid-range model from AMD; the 2080 Super offers 36% more performance than the 5700 XT (5534 benchmark points). But be careful: The benchmark was developed in collaboration with Nvidia, optimized for its cards, and thus is not suitable for an independent comparison between manufacturers.

According to the benchmark, the new Nvidia card is therefore well-suited for high settings in WQHD. It is interesting that the 2080 Super does not appear in the other tables.

The leaked benchmark results also show that the 739 Euro card is almost equal (2%) to the 3000 Euro Nvidia Titan V and about 14% behind the RTX 2080 Ti, which currently costs around 1259 Euros.

The Nvidia 2080 Super offers about 13% more performance for an additional 200 Euros compared to the 2070 Super, while the 2080 Ti also offers 14% more performance than the new Super 2080 for the same additional 200 Euros.
Why isn’t the performance increase of the 2080 Super as strong as with the 2070 Super?
The solution lies in the technology of the graphics card. Nvidia integrated a chip of the 2080 into the 2070 Super, which led to a significant performance gain of about 14.3% from the 2070 (6690 points) to the 2070 Super (7646). With the 2080 Super, the same chip as already used in the RTX 2080 is still utilized, resulting in only a 7 percent growth.
Super 2080 Release, Custom Models, no 2080 Super Ti
One should also be excited about the custom models of the new Super 2080: Experience shows that the custom models are usually better equipped and can extract a bit more performance than the reference models. The RTX 2080 Super will be released on July 23 and the first reliable results will come in then.
It is also important that, according to Winfuture, Nvidia does not plan a 2080 Super Ti. Additionally: The predecessor model, the RTX 2080, which is about 100 Euros cheaper, will no longer be produced with the launch of the Super variant and will slowly disappear from the market.
Should you rather go for an old 2080 than the 2080 Super?
Currently, the standard 2080 costs around 650 Euros, while the 2080 Super is expected to start at 739 Euros. If the price of the remaining 2080 cards falls significantly, taking a look at the non-Super 2080 might be worthwhile. Instead of, for example, going for the new 2070 Super, it’s better to opt for the 6% faster 2080, which reaches over 8000 points in the FinalFantasy benchmark, which is a very good value and also offers only about 7% less performance than the Super model.
