The online game Warframe is getting a major graphics update. The developers have now presented this in detail and show comparison images.
Why is a graphics update coming? The successful online game Warframe is set to be enhanced, after all, the shooter is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X. While the online game currently looks good, the upgrade will give the impression that it was developed for next-gen consoles.
Significant improvements to Warframe’s graphics
What exactly is included in the upgrade? There is a lot in the update. The MMO is getting a new, powerful rendering engine that calculates the graphics. We will list these innovations and optimizations for you here:
- Completely new and improved reflections
- Improved fog
- More and improved dynamic lighting and real-time shadows – but initially only in selected areas of the game world
- A significantly improved performance of the game
Ray tracing, or RTX, will not be supported initially. However, the team intends to engage with this technology in the future and may introduce RTX later on.
What does this mean? Warframe will look significantly better after the upgrade. The developers demonstrate this with comparison screenshots, which you can see here:
How are players reacting to the graphics upgrade? The reactions are mostly positive. It only took these two images to excite the community. However, there are still concerns about whether the game will remain playable on weaker PCs or consoles.

What is special about the upgrade? The developers still see this as a kind of experiment. Therefore, they are not yet implementing dynamic lighting everywhere and initially let you choose whether to use the old or new engine. The team wants to first determine how far they can go with the new effects.
