The battle system is now the big thing for the winter of Pokémon GO. First insights into the league system are already available.
Soon Pokémon GO will introduce the battle system that allows you to fight against other trainers. PvP is a feature that fans have been requesting since the release of Pokémon GO in the summer of 2016. On Friday, the Niantic team presented the first insights of the PvP system and showed what trainers can expect there.
Three different leagues were presented in which players can participate. These are based on the CP values of the participating Pokémon.
PvP with league system in Pokémon GO
On Twitter, various Pokémon GO accounts gradually released hints about the PvP feature on Friday evening (November 30).
Trainers still don’t know exactly what is coming for them. The announcement is supposed to happen “soon”. However, Niantic did not want to withhold smaller insights into the new battles from its players.
What are the names of the leagues in Pokémon GO? In English, the leagues are called Great, Ultra, and Master. So the translations should be Super, Hyper, and Master League.
These leagues have different symbols that can be recognized. The stripes on the emblems apparently represent the difficulty.
How do the leagues differ? In a tweet from Pokémon GO it says: “Do you think that CP strength is the only decisive factor in trainer battles in Pokémon GO? Think again, trainer. Trainers have to choose a league before a trainer battle. Each of these leagues has different maximum CP limits.”
What are the maximum CP values per league?
- In the Super League, Pokémon with up to 1500 CP can compete
- In the Hyper League, the maximum CP limit is 2500 points
- The Master League has no CP limit at all. Here, you can use your strongest Pokémon
In the Super and Hyper League, you will have to think strategically. High CP values alone won’t help you there.
What else is known about trainer battles?
In a battle team, there is room for three Pokémon. You can assemble multiple teams through a pre-selection per league and also name them.
Why were the leagues chosen this way: When designing the Pokémon battles, the developers wanted to ensure that they created something that everyone enjoys. Without limits, high-level players with strong Pokémon would always have the advantage. With the Super League, which only allows Pokémon up to a maximum of 1500 CP, even lower-level trainers have a chance to compete at the top in this league.
