In Fortnite: Battle Royale (PC, PS4, iOS, Android, Switch & Xbox One), the major eSport tournament Fall Skirmish is currently running. Recently, there was an uproar because two players accidentally cheated. This now has serious consequences.
What exactly happened? The two players Nate Hill from the FaZe clan and FunkBomb participated in the first round of the major Fortnite tournament Fall Skirmish. FunkBomb was eliminated early and then watched the rest of the game on Twitch. Epic was streaming the tournament live without delay.
FunkBomb made a call-out to his teammate Nate Hill via voice chat and livestream. A few seconds later, he realized that the broadcast was live and he was giving his buddy Nate Hill unfair advantages. FunkBomb said: “This feels like cheating.”
He then immediately stopped. His partner did nothing with the information but more or less ignored it.
Community is furious: Nevertheless, it was clear that Hill enjoyed unfair advantages and knew the position and health of an opponent. Therefore, the community was angry and demanded harsh penalties for the two “cheaters”. The community’s anger spilled over to Reddit and social media, where FunkBomb was bombarded with a lot of hate.
Epic imposes penalties
What happened to the two “cheaters”? The two players likely had no intention of cheating. The action lasted only a few seconds and was probably an accident. FunkBomb felt terrible and even reported himself. Nevertheless, Epic has now imposed severe penalties on both players:
- FunkBomb is kicked from a team and will no longer be entitled to club prizes. However, he can still participate in the TwitchCon tournament.
- Nate Hill from the FaZe Clan will also be punished as a beneficiary of the action, though not as harshly. He receives a ban until October 11, but remains in his team and continues to be eligible for prizes.
Zero tolerance for cheating: With this, Epic meets the demands of the angry community and also clearly shows that there is a zero tolerance policy for cheating during a tournament. After all, the great tournament Fall Skirmish involves winnings in the millions, and everything should be fair.
