Many trainers in Pokémon GO rely on their Mega Evolutions in battles. A new one of these monsters has now been found, which is expected to come to the game soon. We looked at what kind of monster it is and show you the reactions from the community.
What is a Mega Evolution? For some time now, there has been the opportunity in Pokémon GO to temporarily evolve certain monsters. These evolutions are somewhat stronger, which is why they are primarily used in raids and Rocket battles.
However, the list of these Mega Monsters is currently limited. However, the PokeMiners, a group of dataminers, have discovered a new Mega Evolution in the game code.
The PokeMiners are a group of dataminers who regularly search for new information in the game code. They then share their findings with other trainers and publish them via their channels on social media.
Although their findings have often been confirmed in the past, they are not official information. Therefore, changes to the content can be made by Niantic at any time, or the content may not even make it into the game.
This Mega Evolution has been found
The PokeMiners have stumbled upon a new Mega Evolution in their latest search of the game code of Pokémon GO. They have now shared their findings through their channels on Twitter and Reddit. Accordingly, you might soon encounter Mega Steelix in Mega Raids.
However, the individual stats of the monster have not yet been determined by the PokeMiners. According to the comments, they are expected to look like this according to Pokebattler (via twitter.com):
- Defense: 181
- Attack: 212
- Defense: 327
Mega Steelix can temporarily evolve from the Steel and Ground Pokémon Steelix. To do this, you need a certain amount of Mega Energy, which you can obtain by winning in the corresponding Mega Raids. An evolution lasts for several hours.
If Mega Steelix comes to the game, it will mark the first time that the Steel and Ground types are represented in Mega Evolutions. Therefore, only the Rock type would be missing.
How the community reacts to Mega Steelix
The community is somewhat split regarding the PokeMiners’ current find. Some trainers are excited about such a release. For instance, broad3000 writes on Twitter “Perfect! If it becomes available, I can finally evolve my 100% [Steelix] into a Mega” and shows a picture of the mentioned monster (via twitter.com).
But the appearance of the Mega Evolution also excites players. RyanSwag writes, “It is definitely one of the coolest-looking Megas” (via twitter.com).
Candy Bonus: Another advantage of Mega Evolution is the Candy Bonus you get from other monsters of the type. If you have evolved a Pokémon into a Mega, you receive an extra candy for catching the same type during that time.
For this reason, some trainers like Nplumb are excited about extra candies when using a Meltan box (via reddit.com)
Strength of the monster: However, there is also criticism of Mega Steelix. While cup_of_plates is looking forward to the monster, they find its strength disappointing: “Pretty exciting to see Mega Steelix. It looks decent, and I like it. Too bad it won’t be very useful in PoGo, but I think it will be released.” (via reddit.com).
Mega Steelix is unlikely to be very strong. This is mainly due to its moveset. sirlight282 agrees: “Steel and Ground Mega Boost is nice, I think. However, it doesn’t change the fact that Mega Steelix is quite weak for PvE on its own. Edit: I just realized it doesn’t even have a fast Ground attack; it’s worse than I thought” (via reddit.com).
For this reason, according to some trainers, it is rather boring, as they would have preferred to hope for other Mega Evolutions.
What trainers hope for
Since only one Mega Pokémon of the Rock type is missing after the release of Mega Steelix, some trainers express their wishes. BazF91 hopes for Mega Aerodactyl, Mega Tyranitar, or Mega Diancie (via reddit.com). Diancie is a Pokémon from the 6th generation of Rock and Fairy type, and it has not yet been available in its normal form in the game.

Ben_Faulstick is confident about which monsters will come: “I expect that we will receive Steelix in the first half of December and Mega Glaceon towards the end of the year.” (via twitter.com).
When it will ultimately be the case and which monsters will specifically appear in the game cannot be said at the moment, so it remains to be seen. As soon as Niantic comments on this, you will of course find out about it here on MeinMMO.
What do you think of the current find by the PokeMiners? Would you be excited for Mega Steelix? What monster would you like to see in its Mega Evolution? Please share your opinion with us here on MeinMMO in the comments and discuss with other trainers.
In the coming days, Hoopa (Unbound) will celebrate its release in Pokémon GO. We took a look at what to expect from the Hoopa event.
