FIFA 23 will offer a lot of new gameplay features. But especially the new Power tackle looks powerful and makes you want more.
In the new gameplay trailer for FIFA 23, EA shows what features will be available at launch. But alongside Hypermotion 2, which will bring around 6,000 new animations and the new Super Shot, especially a new tackle called “Hard Slide” looks like a really powerful weapon for defenders.
And if it works as well as it looks, then strikers in FIFA 23 could have a real problem.
Kick the Ball into the Stands with the “Hard Slide” Tackle
What kind of tackle is this? According to EA Sports, “Hard Slide” is intended for urgent situations in defense where the defender does not care whether the ball stays in play or not. The tackle therefore has more power than the standard tackle and is capable of separating opponents from the ball and sending the sphere uncontrollably into the stands.
A good last option to prevent a goal without causing a penalty. However, it could be dangerous if the tackle is applied too late. Then, it could quickly result in a red card.
So a touch of finesse is required – or you just don’t care about the red card and want to take your opponent out. With “Hard Slide”, that finally seems possible.
How strong is the tackle? Currently, it is hard to say how much influence the new Power tackle will actually have on defensive play. However, in the footage for FIFA 23, it looks genuinely powerful and precise.
Moreover, an EA developer also mentioned that it is the perfect answer to the new Power Shots. We remain curious.

This is how “Hard Slide” works: To execute the new “Hard Slide” tackle, you simply need to press R1 and circle (RB and X), and your player will slide across the grass aiming to remove the opponent from the ball.
