In Diablo 4, there are initial reactions to the announced changes in Season 4. Loot without an Excel spreadsheet is set to become normal again soon.
What major change makes players happy? The change that makes players happy concerns the loot in the game. The developers presented their changes to the items in the game during the Campfire livestream on March 20, 2024.
Specifically, Legendary items will have only three affixes and rare items will have only two. Previously, there were over 200 different affixes in the game when counted together.
The affixes are supposed to be stronger in return and provide the exact right stats depending on the class. For example, wands will gain “Intelligence,” while wands with “Strength” will no longer exist. For players, this change means significantly less paperwork.
The leaderboards came with season 3 in Diablo 4 and will remain in subsequent seasons:
Players are happy about the change that makes things so much easier for them
What makes players happy about it? Until now, getting a drop of a potentially good item in Diablo 4 always meant a lot of calculations for players.
To determine if an item is truly better than another, players had to parse the new item, measuring the damage over time and comparing it to the previous one. For this, players used large Excel spreadsheets to precisely see if the item did actually inflict more damage.
On Reddit, the user altiuscitiusfortius explains why he is unhappy about the current loot: “I wouldn’t call what dropped ‘loot’. Two million rare items with seven billion affixes that I can’t analyze without three Excel spreadsheets, to the point where getting a new [equipment] piece that could be an upgrade is disappointing because it takes so much work to test it out.”
Other players on Reddit are simply happy about the announcement that something will be done about the loot.
Whoopy2000 writes on Reddit: “This campfire [developer livestream] was the first time I had a real idea of what Diablo 4 could be. I LOVE that we’re finally getting a proper redesign of the item equipment that looks MUCH better than the previous one and much better than this terrible D3 system. […]”
However, some players also want to wait and see how good the changes really are. On Reddit, LemonGirlScoutCookie writes: “We’ll see. It’s getting worse and worse. ‘Blizzard good!’, then ‘Blizzard bad.’ And it just repeats over and over again.”
