Many players are reporting a ban wave in WoW Classic. Has it finally been cleaned up?
For several weeks, the atmosphere in World of Warcraft Classic has been tense. This is not only due to the changed perception of players regarding powerful addons and frustration with the PvP system, but it also has another source: bots. However, these cheaters are now facing consequences, as a ban wave arrived just in time for New Year’s Eve.
What is the problem? The bots for WoW: Classic have become increasingly sophisticated in recent weeks. Many bots are fully automated; they not only kill opponents but also sell their loot independently, perform repairs, and can even defend themselves fundamentally in PvP situations. Even if they die, they automatically find their corpse, regenerate, and continue their work.
As a result, they collect many resources and diminish the success of the “real” players, as their resources lose value or they cannot even farm in areas that are being farmed by bots.
What happened? On the night of December 30 to 31, there were increasing reports on Reddit and social media from players who reported being banned. The reason: botting. Many players insist that they were banned unfairly, claiming that they did not use a bot.
Whether these players are telling the truth is, of course, hard to say. However, it is clear that many accounts have received a temporary or even permanent ban in the past hours.
Why now? Why Blizzard is executing a ban wave between the holidays is also unclear. It could be that the numerous complaints have led the developers to act sooner. Actually, a large part of the Blizzard workforce is currently on vacation until the new year. However, it could also be that the ban has been automated and has been targeted for today for some time.
