With the upcoming addon The Heart of Fire, Cryptic Studios is making adjustments to the classes in the MMORPG Neverwinter. Some of these have been long awaited by the community.
When it comes to balancing changes to classes in an MMORPG, a developer treads on thin ice. However, in Neverwinter, these adjustments are necessary and they come with some further changes in the addon The Heart of Fire.
New Balancing for the Neverwinter Classes
What is changing? All classes will be overhauled with The Heart of Fire. The main focus will be on the Control Wizard and the Trickster Rogue. Because there have been the most complaints from the community about these two. Other classes will also receive slight adjustments, but only in details.
- These adjustments will be made to the Control Wizard: The arcane abilities will be revised, so that it is really worthwhile to use the powers. This has often led to bugs, which the team is now fixing. The talent trees will also be optimized and powers will receive new effects. In general, the Control Wizard should feel more effective and powerful.
- The Trickster Rogue will become more competitive: This class felt especially too strong in PvP, which is why adjustments are now being implemented, making the rogue not seem so overpowering and causing less damage. These balancing optimizations relate to its powers and talents.
Additionally, the animations of all classes will be adjusted to run smoother and faster.
Adjusting Classes is Always Difficult
How is the community reacting to these adjustments? As already mentioned, balancing adjustments to classes should be approached with caution and therefore they are not pleasing to everyone.
- The “nerf” to the Trickster Rogue has received some criticism. A player named snotty in the official forum said, for example: “Great, now my Trickster Rogue is bad in PvE because he was supposedly too powerful in PvP – a mode I don’t even play!”
However, many players believe that this frustration comes from the fact that certain combos are now less effective and players have to learn to use the rogue’s full repertoire of skills differently. Furthermore, the adjustments are simply necessary to maintain fairness in PvP. - The changes to the Control Wizard are, on the other hand, very well received. These were really urgent due to the bugs. After the update, the wizard should simply be more fun and effective to play.
We will find out how the changes to the classes of Neverwinter play out when the adventure module The Heart of Fire is released on November 6 for PC.
