Were you not at the VIP demo for Anthem or can’t wait to hop back into your Javelin? Then you’re in luck because everyone can try out the shooter during the Open Demo. Whether on PS4, PC, or Xbox One.
Before the release of Anthem on February 22, there are two demos where players can try the shooter. With the VIP demo now behind us, the open demo will take place from February 1 to February 3, where all interested parties can participate.
When does the Open Demo start? From February 1 to February 3, 2019, players can play Anthem for free on all platforms. Unlike the VIP demo, you do not need to pre-order the game or enter a friend code.
- Start: February 1, 2019, at 6:01 PM
- End: February 4, 2019, at 3:01 AM (overnight)
How do I participate? Players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 can easily download the demo from the respective console store. PC players still require a free Origin account.
Is there already a preload? The preload is already active. For those who participated in the last demo and downloaded the client, an update is sufficient.
Recently on January 31, a patch was released that likely included some fixes. It has also been confirmed that the annoying bug with the endless loading screen should no longer occur.

Note for console players: For the Anthem demo, just like for the full game, an active membership for PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold is required.
Demo or Beta? BioWare calls the upcoming gameplay weekend an Open Demo instead of an Open Beta. Even though it’s not called an Open Beta, you should still prepare for potential issues. The VIP demo, for example, struggled with a persistent loading screen bug that could not be fixed over the weekend.
However, BioWare has already planned a “cool” surprise for one day of the demo.
What can we expect in the Open Demo? It can be expected that the Open Demo will have a similar, if not the same scope as the VIP demo. In the VIP demo, players were able to start with a Level 10 Ranger Javelin and level up to Level 15. At Level 12, they could unlock one of the three additional Javelins: Storm, Interceptor, or Colossus.
These 4 Javelins are the combat tools of the players, which can be modified. Together with skill mods and weapons, they can experiment with various builds. Some have already tested the VIP demo and wish for more statistics on the character values of the respective builds.
In addition, some missions, a Stronghold, and free play in the open world await the aspiring Freelancers. The activities can be undertaken either solo, together with a group of friends, or with random players.
All activities in Anthem have optional matchmaking.

What do VIP players get? While all interested parties can try out Anthem in the Open Demo, there is still a bonus for players who were already part of the VIP demo. After BioWare unlocked all Javelins for testers in the last hours of the VIP demo, they stated that VIP players will also be able to try out all four suits in the Open Demo.
The developers apologize for the problems in the VIP demo with a gift:
