The first update for Outriders is available on Xbox consoles since the past weekend. Therefore, crossplay is functioning as intended again. However, due to the inventory bug, many are avoiding multiplayer.
What was the problem with the crossplay feature? At the release of Outriders, crossplay was only partially functional and was not at all possible between consoles and PCs.
The last update, which was released on the weekend with a few days delay on Xbox as well, has now resolved the issue.
This is how crossplay works in Outriders: Players can usually play together across all platforms where Outriders has been released. This includes PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Epic and Steam), and Google Stadia.
This should now be functioning again. However, the “Inventory Wipe Bug” is still haunting Outriders and significantly dampens the joy of the repaired crossplay feature.
Bug keeps players away from co-op
What’s going on? Since the release on April 1st, the “Inventory Wipe Bug” has been occurring, which some Outriders players may already know from the demo. When it occurs, the entire inventory disappears.
Players log into the game and find their character completely naked, without equipment. Hard-earned loot simply disappears, some players have lost their progress of over 100 hours.
At least the developers managed to reduce the frequency of occurrences by making adjustments to the servers over the weekend, but the bug still occurs.
In the Outriders subreddit, the developers from People Can Fly mention that the bug may be related to expeditions and multiplayer:
“We see that many of these reports are specifically related to starting a multiplayer session from the Outriders camp in expeditions. So if you’re concerned about the issue occurring for you, we recommend avoiding this setup as it significantly reduces the likelihood.”

Overall, according to the developers, the risk is lower when playing solo. Consequently, many players cannot really try out the crossplay feature out of concern for their loot.
Developers announce next patch
What’s next? Just last night (April 12th), People Can Fly provided an update on the situation on Twitter. Another patch is in development to reduce the occurrence of the bug.
There is no date for this yet, but according to developers, it should come “as soon as possible”.
