Mario Gomez is actually the epitome of a goal scorer. But now the FUT Hero has received a card in FIFA 22 that forces him to prevent goals. Crazy, but not bad at all!
Who is Mario Gomez? Mario Gomez is likely still a name known to most football fans, as his career end was not long ago. As an active player, he chased goals first for VfB Stuttgart, then for Bayern, Florence, Besiktas Istanbul, Wolfsburg, and finally Stuttgart again.
He was known as a dangerous scorer, who primarily scored in the penalty area with a quick movement, a surprising header, or a powerful shot. He also went for goals in the national team – but unfortunately, he had his share of bad days there. So he was often haunted by images of missed big chances.
“Preventing goals,” that is not something a striker likes to do. But in FIFA 22, Gomez now has a card that is meant to allow him to do just that.
Shapeshifter Mario Gomez gets a whole new role
What kind of card is this? Currently, the “Shapeshifters” event is taking place, where various players receive entirely new positions and changed attributes. The new “Team 3” also included some of the “FUT Heroes”, meaning players from days gone by. One of them is Gomez.
And those who used to joke that Gomez is more likely to prevent goals than to score them can now look forward to a new card: Here is Mario Gomez as a center-back.
This is how good the card is: In fact, Gomez has received all the attributes you would expect from a really good center-back. He has 90 Pace, 95 Defense, and 93 Physical. Moreover, he still has his high shooting value of 91, which distinguishes him as a striker.
Gomez, who sometimes appears a bit sluggish as a striker in FIFA 22, could actually fill the center-back position perfectly with these attributes. And: His card will also be changed to Serie A. Thus, he fits perfectly with the currently perhaps best center-back in FIFA 22.
A combination of Chiellini and Gomez could indeed be really difficult for opposing strikers to overcome. Additionally, he provides a good connection to Bundesliga cards – and there are also some in the new team.
