Today the Final Wipe in the Selective Multiplayer RPG Shroud of the Avatar takes place, after which the world will gain its persistence.
After the Final Wipe, the developers at Portalarium expect a Land Rush, which Richard “Lord British” Garriott likens to the Land Rush in Oklahoma in the 19th century. Depending on when players supported the game and also depending on the amount contributed and thus the “Pledge Level,” players will gradually receive permission to claim land in the world. This can be found in NPC cities as well as in settlements that players have established in the world.
The battle for the properties begins!
People expect a real “battle” for the best locations and lands. Especially the housing feature is something that has encouraged many to participate in Shroud of the Avatar. In addition to the plot of land, one must also purchase a house, with various types available at different costs. Some Pledge Levels already include land and houses, in the in-game shop players can still purchase a few for real money. The houses and plots can subsequently be decorated according to one’s own ideas, including items that have been crafted by the players themselves.
With the Final Wipe and the persistent world, the properties, houses, and the progress that players achieve with their characters will no longer be reset. That is why it is important for many to quickly grab the best lands now.
Final Wipe is not the start of the game
SotA’s Executive Producer Starr Long explains that they have now reached a milestone in the game’s development that sets it apart from other MMORPGs: “When taking other MMORPGs as examples, which are also funded through crowdfunding, I believe Shroud is the first in the fantasy genre to achieve a Final Wipe and thus persistence. We are very pleased to have reached this critical moment and thank our community for the fantastic support.”
The developers of Shroud of the Avatar also explicitly point out that the Final Wipe is not the official start of the game. This will only take place towards the end of the year, when the content of Episode 1 is completed. The Land Rush begins today around 5:30 PM!
