The fantasy MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV will host a “Welcome Back” event for Heavensward and provide returning players with equally strong items.
It is a question that MMORPGs must answer: How can we ensure that ex-players, when they return, or new players catch up with the herd that is currently experiencing the latest game content?
In WoW, Blizzard gives Lvl90 characters, in SWTOR Bioware will soon provide a free Lvl60 character, but in Final Fantasy XIV, the problem is even bigger: Players first have to go through the long and demanding main story before heading to Heavensward. For this, item levels must be reached, and raids cleared. But if that is too burdensome, new or returning players risk losing momentum along the way. The head of FF XIV, Naoki Yoshida, has already hinted at “reliefs.”
A campaign was presented today: In Final Fantasy XIV, ex-players who want to return for Heavensward will receive substantial support to get started.
The startup assistance applies to players who had an active account before March 31 and have not logged in between April 1 and June 7.
If they are active between June 23 and July 23, Square Enix will gift them 10 silver Chocobo feathers via Moogle Post, which they can exchange for level 120 gear.

And “Invite a Friend” is back
To show Heavensward to as many players as possible, the “Invite a Friend” campaign is also being revived. Here, players can earn feathers when they “recruit” someone who later purchases game time. You can find details about this special event here.
