In Final Fantasy XIV you can ride your own Chocobo after a few levels. We from MeinMMO explain to you what you need to do for that.
At the beginning of the MMORPG you are walking and will quickly find that the paths are quite long without a mount. Meanwhile, other players fly and ride past you on various mounts.
In FFXIV you follow a main quest line, the main scenario, from the very beginning, which guides you through various areas. The unlocking of riding is closely tied to it. During the story, you will receive your first mount – a Chocobo. The yellow bird has been a part of the series since Final Fantasy II and is also indispensable in Final Fantasy XIV.
This is how you start the Chocobo quest
To get your first mount, you need to complete a quest called “My own Chocobo”.
To obtain this, there are a few prerequisites. First, you need to reach level 20, which happens anyway within the main story, as the quests provide you with plenty of experience.
When you also arrive at level 20 through the main scenario, there is a point where you choose between 3 quests and thus join a state company:
- “In the service of the Brotherhood” for Gridania
- “In the service of the Maelstrom” for Limsa Lominsa
- “In the service of the Legion” for Ul’dah
If you have joined one of the three companies, another quest follows. You will receive 200 state coins, which you will need later.
What are state coins? They are a currency used by the state companies. You receive them by completing FATES, and you can exchange them for equipment and other items in the city.
Now you can accept the Chocobo quest. For that, go to the company’s base in the respective city.
Obtaining a Chocobo License
What do I do with the state coins? You now need to exchange your received state coins for a Chocobo license. For that, go to the supply officer of the respective city. There you exchange your state coins. Here are the coordinates for the officer in each city:
- Limsa Lominsa – Upper Decks (x: 13 / Y: 12.6)
- New Gridania – (X: 9.8 / Y: 12.6)
- Ul’dah – Nald’s Crossroads (X: 8.4 / Y: 9.2)
For 200 coins you will finally receive the Chocobo license of the Maelstrom, the Brotherhood, or the Legion – depending on the selected company. This does not affect your mount.
Next, you can go to a Chocobo stable and exchange the license for your bird. Since this is your first mount, you can even choose a name yourself. This is no longer possible with later mounts.
Summoning your mount
In addition to your newly obtained mount, you receive a Chocobo whistle. Select it in your inventory and click on “Use” – This allows you to learn how to summon your mount.
Afterwards, you will receive the command “Mount up/Send away” with the icon of a Chocobo head. This allows you to summon your mount and send it away. It’s best to drag the command into your action bar.
In the mount directory, you can then see your Chocobo and all the other mounts you will receive.
