On June 28, 2024, Square Enix released version 7.0 of Final Fantasy XIV. This also marked the start of the Early Access for the new expansion Dawntrail. Since then, the MMORPG has been suffering from several major bugs. In the official blog, the head has now apologized for the problems.
What bugs has 7.0 brought? Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail aka version 7.0 officially went live on Friday. Of course, the new version also came with fresh bugs of all severity levels. Some of the more serious ones were addressed by Naoki Yoshida, the director and producer of the game, in a blog post.
Specifically, he addresses these bugs:
- Freezing when changing areas on the Xbox version
- Mechanics in endgame content related to freezing don’t work
- affected are: Dragon War (fatal), Hero’s Song of Shinryu, and Delubrum Reginae (epic)
- Faulty representation and animations of certain characters – for example, while eating pizza
These bugs generally relate to the game but apparently primarily do not concern the new content of the expansion Dawntrail. Here you can watch the launch trailer for it:

What does Naoki Yoshida say? The director and producer publicly apologizes to the players in the official blog of the game. He has also initiated an investigation into the problems and explains the ways to solve them.
For him, the loading issues on the Xbox version weigh particularly heavily:
We are currently investigating the situation and striving for a quick solution. However, fixing this bug requires the release of a patch. This process also involves extensive checks by our QA team, and may therefore take several days.
We are working to release the patch as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, we will still need some time for this process. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding as we work on the problem.

However, the issue seems to occur less frequently on less populated worlds. The core of the bug is a phenomenon called memory fragmentation, which occurs less often when fewer players need to be rendered simultaneously.
Yoshida’s tip: We […] would like to suggest that you consider playing on the data centers Dynamis, Oceania, and Shadow.
On the other hand, the problems with the freezing mechanics have already caused laughter in the community. What is currently happening in the three endgame contents also causes players to fall like flies in the Level 50 raid Syrcus Tower
:
In fact, the team has already fixed the Syrcus Tower raid. Whether the issue in the endgame is also so easy to resolve remains to be seen.
The representation bugs regarding certain races and commands or emotes, on the other hand, are explained by Naoki Yoshida as a result of incorrect values during the fine-tuning of the graphic update
. This likely refers to the imploding faces of the Au Ra when eating pizza. Specifically, the Scholar command Seraph Teachings
is also mentioned.
What happens next? In the blog post, Yoshida writes that the problems have the highest priority for them. The team is already working on investigating and systematically resolving them. He also announces a potential hotfix for the first week of July 2024.
The representation and freezing issues seem to be quickly solvable. The freezing on Xbox, however, will take a bit longer according to Naoki Yoshida.
In conclusion, the director and producer apologizes again to the players and assures them that they want to correct the errors as quickly as possible.
So how about you? Have you already experienced the mentioned bugs? Were you able to defeat Boss Amon in Syrcus Tower, possibly even while the bug was active? Let us know in the comments.
In fact, Dawntrail has brought some innovations. Besides the major graphic update, there were also fresh features for the glamour system of the MMORPG. However, these do not bring joy to everyone: Final Fantasy XIV receives a major innovation with Dawntrail, but many players feel it doesn’t go far enough
