Final Fantasy XIV is currently hosting the Fan Festival in London. Today, various innovations for the expansion Dawntrail were presented during a keynote. One of them is the new job Viper. This job uses two swords, which can also be combined into a long sword.
What do we know about the class? The Viper somewhat resembles the existing job Ninja, but with a different flair. Both classes also share the same type of equipment.
You start in Ul’dah, allowing you to begin your adventures in Dawntrail right away. You also don’t need any other class as a prerequisite to use it.
The trailer shows some quick attacks executed with the two separate blades. However, the Viper can also unite them into one weapon to perform even stronger attacks.
The job was presented by Naoki Yoshida in an appropriate cosplay. The live audience went wild, especially since a melee DPS with a fast combat style was among the most desired classes.

A fighter like Zidane or Darth Maul
How is the gameplay received? Very well. The new class reminds many of the fast combat style and handling of the blades like Zidane from Final Fantasy 9 or Darth Maul from Star Wars. These are two very prominent and positive examples when it comes to particularly good fights.
The comparison with Zidane is obvious, as both originate from the same universe. However, the comparison to the villain from Star Wars has been made six times:

- Talisa87 adds: “Mods for lightsabers will go through the roof.
However, some admit they were expecting a completely different class. A Corsair, a maritime class with sword and pistol, was highly requested.
However, they are not disappointed, as the user einUberMensch proves: “Well, it seems that almost all of us were wrong with our assumption. I admit that I would have preferred a Corsair with sword/pistol, but honestly, Yoshida is right when people ask for another “Dual Wield” job. And I like what I see.
New race and images of the new graphics
What else was revealed? One of the new races in Dawntrail resembles goblins and they are called Moblins. Additionally, the new alliance raid Echoes of Vana’diel was introduced.
You can also look forward to familiar content such as FATEs, Hunts, and treasure maps.
Furthermore, there were a series of screenshots that are supposed to illustrate the new graphic update. We have included some of the images here.
During the keynote, it was emphasized again that the release of Dawntrail is planned for summer 2024. Until then, another job will be introduced.
Lastly, it was revealed that the crossover with Fall Guys will already appear with patch 6.51, on October 31.
