In Final Fantasy XIV, this year’s Halloween event Allerseelen 2019 is currently running. This allows players to take on the form of NPCs. They take advantage of this to mock the famous characters.
What are the players up to? FFXIV players are currently posting various pictures and clips of NPCs striking strange poses across many social channels. Leading the way is the NPC Thancred, whom players apparently enjoy tormenting.
In a popular tweet with nearly 4000 likes and over 2000 retweets, a group of Minfilias (who looks quite like little girls) dance around Thancred in the “Yol Dance,” who seems overwhelmed and intimidated, not knowing what to do:
Other players place the NPCs in dark summoning circles or showcase their favorite ‘ships’, partnerships that they like to attribute to the NPCs via fan fiction.
How do they even manage that? The scenes are created through the Allerseelen event that has been running since October 17th. In this event, players have the opportunity to teleport to a Halloween version of the “Haukke Manor”.
Here they can then transform into a wide selection of NPCs (the exceptions are Alisae and Alphinaud, as they have special models).
As NPCs, they still have access to certain player actions – namely dances like the Yol Dance reminiscent of the T-Pose or the “Black Ranger” pose, which looks very much like a Dab:
Through a new screenshot system, players can also adjust the lighting and sync emotes. This results in even crazier scenes.
Serious “NPCs” acting silly
What makes it so absurd: The NPCs in Final Fantasy XIV actually play a pretty serious role in the game and in the (soon repeatable) story.
They always try to save the world from great dangers and stumble from one dire situation to the next. Also, they can be obtained as companions.
Consequently, most characters are quite “hard”. They don’t really fit into such nonsense as the ring dances, Dab poses, or crazy romances displayed above. However, fans don’t let that stop them from mocking their favorite NPCs anyway.
