Patch 7.3 for Final Fantasy XIV is on the horizon: Square Enix plans to release the update in early August, completing the main story of Dawntrail. Additionally, there will be many new contents, such as updates for field explorations and a new dungeon in the most beautiful area of the game.
When is Patch 7.3 coming? The next major content patch for Final Fantasy XIV goes live on Tuesday, August 6, 2025. This keeps Square Enix true to the 4-month rhythm and delivers fresh content on time, which was further presented in the 88th Live Letter.
As usual, there will be a new chapter of the main story, which will end the narrative arc of the Dawntrail expansion this time. With Patch 7.4, the preparations for the next expansion will then begin. There will also be a new dungeon, a new trial, and a new Variant Dungeon: A deep cavern in Il Mheg, one of the most beautiful areas of the game.

New Dungeons, Trials, and Fan Requests
What are the new contents? On release on August 5, Patch 7.3 will bring the first fresh content for this patch cycle. Here’s what to expect:
- New main story
- New dungeon
- New trial
- New alliance raid to Echoes from Vana’diel: San D’Oria: The second stage
- New PvP arena
- New treasure map dungeon: Treasure Oneiron
- NPC support for the dungeon Cutters Cry
- Extended headgear support for Viera and Hrothgar
- Chat bubble feature
The latter is a new feature that already exists as an external, player-created extension — its use was not previously allowed. However, the feature was so popular that it is now becoming an official part of the game. The text written in the chat appears above the head of the player character who said it — similar to what is already common with NPCs in combat content. The feature is particularly popular in the RP community.
In addition, there is also an update for the field operation Kreszentia: Starting with Patch 7.3, players will be able to start in exclusive instances with existing groups of 24 players. After five minutes, it will be displayed which players qualify for the Fork Tower. For each player, an Arcane Seal of Blood must be sacrificed at the sealing lantern.
This could be a response to player feedback, as it has been quite challenging to unlock the Fork Tower in the regular instances until now.
What’s coming in the subsequent minor patches? After the large influx of content with Patch 7.3, updates 7.31 (approximately one month after Patch 7.3) and 7.35 (approximately two months after 7.3) are on the horizon. Here’s what to expect:
Patch 7.31:
- New zone for cosmic explorations: Phaenna
- New level for the phantom weapons
Patch 7.35:
- New Deep Dungeon: Pilgrims’ Path
- New friendly race of Yok Huy (crafters and gatherers)
- More Hildibrand adventures
The new deep dungeon will be located in Il Mheg, a region that was introduced with the Shadowbringers expansion and is inspired by western high fantasy. Here, fairies and their king reside. The latter wishes for the Warrior of Darkness to explore the remnants of a church.
Prerequisites are that the Palace of the Dead is completed at Level 50 and the quest Endschreiter
is finished. Starting level is 91.
