With the update 6.25, the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV brings many new contents. Among them are new dungeons with variations that are supposed to make your PvE experiences more exciting.
During a 14-hour live letter, the developers at Square Enix explained which contents are coming to the MMORPG with the upcoming patch. Particularly interesting are the new types of dungeons.
Variant and Criterion Dungeons will soon be a permanent part of Final Fantasy XIV. You will traverse new dungeons from level 90 and must complete them under various conditions. The concept is similar to that of the Hard Dungeons from A Realm Reborn and Heavensward.
For each of the new modes, you must have reached level 90.
There are a total of 3 new modes for dungeons in Final Fantasy XIV
Variant, Criterion, and Criterion Savage are the versions. The latter offers the toughest challenge. In July 2022, the developers explained in a stream how they work. Therefore, we will explain the individual contents:
Variant Dungeons
- 1-4 players
- The strength of the enemies depends on the number of party members
- You can switch classes in the middle
- No Holy Trinity
Criterion Dungeons
- 4 players
- Matchmaking
- Split into a Holy Trinity
- No standard resurrection, but each player has a certain number of resurrection actions
- Defeated enemies remain dead after party wipe
Criterion Dungeons (Savage)
- 4 players
- No matchmaking
- No resurrection
- Enemies get stronger if you do not defeat them within a certain time
- Defeated enemies get up again after party wipe
The developers aim with the new variants to make it feel less boring and grindy for players to repeatedly go through the same dungeons, whether it is for dailies, farming, or leveling.
When will the update be released? You can download and play patch 6.25 on October 18, 2022. In addition to the dungeon variants, it offers new quests and introduces the Manderville weapons. With the last patch, every player got their own island.
What do you think of the new versions for dungeons in Final Fantasy XIV? Will they make everyday gameplay more interesting? Which dungeons do you want to traverse first in the different modes? Or will you simply stick to the old ones and prefer not to use them because the raids are already hard enough? Feel free to let us know in the comments here on MeinMMO!
