The next stream with the Producer’s Letter for Final Fantasy XIV will be entirely focused on the upcoming update 5.4. We will live-ticker it.
What is the Producer’s Letter? Before each major update for Final Fantasy XIV, the MMORPG’s director, Naoki Yoshida, hosts at least one multi-hour stream.
During this stream, almost all of the update’s content will be shown in detail. If the stream takes place shortly before the update’s release, a fancy trailer will be shown and the release date revealed.
However, these streams are usually held in Japanese. In this article, we will live ticker the event and provide the English translation of the new information.
When does the stream start? Today’s stream for the “Producer’s Letter – Part 61” starts at exactly 12:00 PM German time.
Where can I watch the stream? You can follow the stream on the following channels:
Live Ticker for the Producer’s Letter from MeinMMO
15:11: That would be all the information about patch 5.4 and other updates from FFXIV. Upcoming announcements include
- Collaborations with Japanese brands Pusheen and Lawson
- Black Friday Sale
- an Mahjong tournament with Yoshida
With that, the stream ends.
15:03: On February 6, there will be an Announcement Showcase for FFXIV. The showcase will be held in both Japanese and English and streamed live, so you can conveniently watch it.
It is part of the 14-hour live stream that is usually held for FFXIV’s anniversary. The rest of the 14-hour stream will be exclusively in Japanese.
It seems to be a kind of substitute for the canceled Fan Festivals. There is a chance that the new expansion for FFXIV will be announced there.
14:53: A small quality of life update for Materia. If you want to attach Materia to an item, starting with 5.4, you will be able to select the option to use the entire stock of a specific type of Materia for it.
So, if you want to fill a forbidden slot in the gear, you don’t have to keep selecting the right Materia from the list; you just click once on “continue.” This will significantly speed up the melding process.
14:49: There are some new emotes:
14:44: Screenshots of the new furnishings and house decorations are shown:
14:36: More information about the new dungeon of the Bozjan Southern Front: To prepare players for the epic version of Delubrum Reginae, at the beginning of the dungeon, you will be able to exchange and equip your Bozjan-exclusive abilities.
At the end, each player will receive their own rewards from the treasure chest. Resurrection will be restricted in the hard version of the dungeon. Groups may gradually lose players.
However, this is not the last update for the Queen’s Watch quests. Another one will come with patch 5.5. If players fail to conquer the hard dungeon in 5.4, they can upgrade their weapons and armors in 5.5 and try again.
Delubrum Reginae will function similarly to a 24-man raid, but the trash mobs will be much stronger. New rewards and achievements will be available upon completion.
14:30: Further information about the quest line “The Queen’s Guard” and the weapons of the resistance. The next update for the quest will come with patch 5.45.
There will be a new dungeon named Delubrum Reginae. It will come in two different difficulties: Normal for 24 players and Epic for 48 players. The epic mode will run through the party finder.
The normal version must be completed to progress in the quest line’s story. In both versions, players will be able to use the Bozjan Front’s special abilities, and in the epic difficulty, according to Yoshida, they will even be necessary.
14:27: More information about the Explorer Mode: In the dungeons, you will also be able to summon a training dummy and try out your abilities on it so you can later take cool action screenshots.
This includes the Limit Breaks, for example. You will select from a menu the three different levels and can use them against the dummy.
Since it is still a dungeon, you can also enter in groups of up to 4 players.
14:16: The Explorer Mode for the dungeons continues. This mode will initially only be available in the Shadowbringers dungeons. Once you have completed one of the dungeons normally, you can enter it in Explorer Mode. This can be done just like through the content finder, as with a small party.
Yoshida shows the dungeon Chateau Cosmea in this mode and a new mount that will likely be available during the Christmas event.
With this mode, players can take their time exploring the dungeons and look at them closely. Yoshida mentioned that many details in the dungeons are often overlooked.
14:09: The reconstruction of Ishgard is set to be completed in patch 5.41. New Skybuilder rankings will be introduced, and the new items will increase your Seasonal Score.
The best craftsmen and gatherers will be awarded the same titles as in the last rankings, but the achievements for that will be new.
A monument will be erected in Ishgard for the crafting job that contributed the most to the reconstruction. It will depict the corresponding job’s tool. Thus, the monuments will differ across different servers.
14:04: There are changes to collectibles. Starting with 5.4, there will be items that can be directly dismantled as collectibles. Due to the adjustments from patch 5.4, the rewards for the current collectibles will be drastically reduced, so hand them in to the NPCs if you still have any.
In patch 5.4, there will be a special interface for collectibles.
- The status “Wear” has been removed.
- The abilities that increase the quality of collectibles have been revised.
- Players must increase quality while paying attention to the condition of the collection point
- Higher stats of the collecting job allow for more efficient harvesting of collectibles.
13:54: The dungeons of Lhe Ghiah, where players can hunt for treasures, will also receive an update in 5.4. The treasure map dungeon will get a similar update as the channels of Uznair had previously.
You will be teleported into a room and start a roulette there. Depending on where the circle lands, there will be fights, rewards, or surprises.
If you land on an Atomos field, the beast will throw you out of the dungeon, and you will have to look for a new entrance.
13:49: Next, we have information about the trial battle against the Emerald Weapon. The intro to the fight contains too many spoilers, so it won’t be shown in the stream.
Final Fantasy fans will know the weapon from FFVII. It was one of the toughest boss fights there.
The fight will have two phases again, and the second phase will differ greatly from the first. Similar to what was already the case with the Ruby Weapon.
13:47: We continue with the battle against Titan. This is supposed to be very difficult at level 80, almost like an additional epic raid boss fight. Therefore, there will also be new rewards.
The party finder will be adjusted accordingly, with the new feature that only players who have mastered the dream trial will be let into your group.
13:35: The stream continues now. The new dream trial is shown: Titan. The dream trial retains all the mechanics of the original extreme version of Titan but is at level 80.
No explicit changes have been made to the fight. So if players fall off the arena, they will not be resurrected.
Yoshida uses the developer mode to demonstrate the fight. You can see that Titan deals almost 30,000 HP damage with a normal attack.
Yoshida commented: “Every job will be very busy in this fight. Shields are very important.”
13:20: The stream takes a short break.
13:15: Triple Triad will have new official tournaments that will take place every 2 hours in the game. For this, 8 players who have registered will be grouped together and compete against each other. The one who wins the most “best-of-3” matches is the winner.
If no 8 players can be found for a tournament group, NPCs will fill the empty slots. The new draft rule will always be active in the tournament.
13:00: The next part of the update is the card game Triple Triad. First, the rules of the mini-game will be briefly repeated.
The update will make it easier to find cards that are not yet in your collection. For this, the interface will be overhauled. The missing cards will be marked with a question mark, and tips will be displayed on where you can find them.
Furthermore, the limitations for the game deck will be revised. Starting with patch 5.4, there will be no restrictions on the number of 1 to 3-star cards in your deck, and only one card with 4 or more stars will be allowed per deck.
New rules will be introduced:
- Fallen Ace: Card strength A can be beaten by a 1
- Draft: You do not have access to your card deck and must play with the cards provided by the game. You can also receive cards that you haven’t played yet.
12:51: We continue with the job adjustments. Yoshida says: “We haven’t nerfed anything.”
- Samurais have not been nerfed
- Bards, Red Mages, Dragoons, and Scholars receive slight buffs. Not all jobs will be buffed, but some will.
- Monks receive very large changes revolving around the status Greased Lightning. The goal was to reduce the stress/ burden on players while maintaining the feel of the monk.
- Greased Lightning will therefore become a passive skill that you obtain when leveling up.
- The attacking power of the abilities will be increased to compensate for the loss of the Lightning buff.
- The effects of the abilities that were influenced by Greased Lightning have been modified accordingly.
The new mechanics of the monk were demonstrated by Yoshida in the stream.
12:48: The last boss of the raid was designed by Tetsuya Nomura. The design is unique and will be kept secret. Yoshida noted that it would have been smart from a PR perspective to reveal the design and use it for the patch, but he wants players to have a “WOW!” effect when they see the boss for the first time.
According to him, fans should also not “expect too much from FFVIII, after all, this is FFXIV.” The epic difficulty is said to increase significantly towards the end. The first two boss fights are “as always.” But the 3rd fight could be a barrier.
12:42: Yoshida shows a fight from the new raid “Eden’s Promise.” It seems to be the Cloud of Darkness, which already appeared in a much larger form in the 24-man raid “World of Darkness.”
The music that plays during the battle is a remix of “Don’t be Afraid” from FFVIII. Yoshida comments that this is a different Cloud of Darkness than the one we know. However, the area looks like the World of Darkness?
12:38: New equipment from patch 5.4:
12:34: The Shadowbringers dungeons will receive an “Explorer Mode.” To unlock this mode, you must have previously mastered the respective dungeon normally.
The mode allows players to enter the dungeon alone and take screenshots, for example. There will be no enemies in the dungeon to disturb you. You will also be able to use your mounts and companions.
12:32: The next phase of the reconstruction of Ishgard will come in patch 5.41. It is expected to be the last update and will complete the reconstruction. However, new rankings will come with the new phase.
The “Crafting Relics” will receive a new upgrade level. They will have two different light effects per weapon.
12:30: Ocean fishing will receive new routes and new tasks.
12:25: Updates for the gathering and crafting classes:
- Underused abilities will be adjusted
- A new crafting condition will be added for high-level recipes.
- The systems surrounding collectibles and Aetherial Reduction will be reworked.
- The amount of collecting points will be shown on the map.
- The skill Fish Eyes will be adjusted. It will no longer be necessary to catch fish. The difficulty of catching individual fish will be modified. The new version of the skill will allow players to ignore the time conditions for fishing.
12:22: Update on the Content Finder. Starting with 5.4, it will be possible to enter content as a small group while still maintaining the level restrictions. This is intended to make learning Blue Magic easier and more efficient. You do not need a full group for a level 50 dungeon as a Blue Mage.
12:18: Blue Mage will receive a major update in patch 5.45. In addition to increasing the level cap from 60 to 70, the job will also receive new job-specific equipment.
It will also be possible again to participate in difficult epic raids with a full Blue Mage group. According to Yoshida, they will be quite challenging. Fans can of course also expect new spells to collect.
12:13: A brief summary of the information known so far. You can find it further down in our live ticker.
- The dungeon is the Atelier of the old Matoya, introduced in the Heavensward expansion.
- The trial battle against the Emerald Weapon will be available in normal and extreme.
- The new raid will conclude the story of Eden and answer all questions about Ryne and Gaia. You must have completed the story from patch 5.3 to unlock the new raid.
12:10: The Japanese trailer is shown again, this time commented by Yoshida and Foxclone.
The voice acting in this update is supposed to be especially cool, and in all voice outputs. Yoshida comments that fans are confused in the Twitch, YouTube, and Nico chats about the trailer: “Everyone is surprised. What is this? What is happening to the world?”
12:07: Here is the German trailer for patch 5.4 –
12:04: The release date of patch 5.4 “Futures Rewritten” is Tuesday, December 8th.
