Final Fantasy XIV released a new promotional video for the upcoming expansion Shadowbringers yesterday. And they scored a hit.
What can you see in the video? In the new promotional video for FFXIV: Shadowbringers, you can see the actors Tom Holland wearing a Chocomog hoodie and Hannibal Buress. The two are preparing for the new expansion.
They have very different methodologies on how they want to become “Warriors of Darkness” from the expansion. You can watch the video here:
What does the community say? Shortly after the video was released, social media and the FFXIV Reddit exploded with posts and shares. A large part of the community is excited about the collaboration with the two actors. Especially Tom Holland received positive feedback in his Chocomog hoodie.
The top comment with the most upvotes on Reddit is accordingly:

The video went viral on Twitter and has now been shared over 16,000 times and received over 30,000 likes. As is often the case with things the FFXIV community loves, the first memes and fanarts about the video followed immediately:

Tom Holland plays Dark Knight and dies. (Fanart by @ff_feeshtank on Twitter)
FFXIV monsters as the “Sinister Six” from the Spiderman universe (by @vauthry on Twitter)
Hannibal Buress as Monk (by @HildibrandXIV on Twitter)
Tom Holland as Warrior of Darkness from the FFXIV trailer (By @HildibrandXIV on Twitter)
The community speculates: However, some users expressed the suspicion that this promotional video might be a sign of a possible crossover of FFXIV with the Marvel universe.
After Square Enix and Disney teamed up to produce Marvel’s Avengers, this wouldn’t be so far-fetched, some fans argued. Producer Yoshida did not mention Marvel, however, when asked about his desired collaborations.
