The MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV clearly met all its expectations in 2021. At times, it was so popular that it had to stop sales. Now you can buy the game again – as more space has been created.
This is the situation:
- In 2021, Final Fantasy XIV was flooded with new players, some of whom “fled” from other MMORPGs like World of Warcraft.
- Due to the influx of new players, long waiting times formed. The servers were overloaded.
- As a consequence, sales were simply stopped in December 2021. New players could no longer purchase Final Fantasy XIV until the issue was resolved. This seems to be the case now.
When can I buy Final Fantasy XIV again? Sales reopened on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. You can purchase all available versions of Final Fantasy XIV for PC, PlayStation, and Mac. You can find them in the official shop.
The fact that you can now purchase the game again is due to the opening of new servers. Final Fantasy XIV wants to ensure that everyone can play without issues.
New servers provide more space
What’s happening in the game? The MMORPG received new servers in the oceanic region (Australia, New Zealand) on January 25. The goal is to provide players there with their own worlds with lower ping – while simultaneously relieving other servers.
Since players from the region previously had to switch to US, EU, or Asian servers, it was crowded there. This should now be better distributed. In addition, the servers serve all players as a “new beginning.” Those who want to acquire one of the absurdly expensive houses have a chance there.
Together with the new servers, patch 6.08 is also being released. This brings some minor balance adjustments for the jobs and bug fixes. You can find the full patch notes on the official website.
What’s next? Currently, it will stay with the oceanic servers, where new players from these regions are primarily expected to gather. In July 2022, a total of 4 more worlds are set to appear in Europe.
Later, another data center with 8 additional worlds will come. The fact that all of this takes so long is reportedly due to the current semiconductor shortage. This is why it took 6 weeks for Final Fantasy XIV to reappear in the shop.
A well-known MMORPG streamer, Asmongold, however, sees a completely different future for the genre. He believes a new technology will shape the coming times:
