In an interview, Naoki Yoshida, the Director and Producer of Final Fantasy XIV, talks about the new patch series 7.x. He promises, among other things, the largest content update of all time.
What did Yoshida say? In an interview with the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Naoki Yoshida discussed the development of Final Fantasy XIV. He emphasized that the focus of the MMORPG’s development during the Endwalker patch series 6.x was to make the game more suitable for single-player play.
But now it is time to reflect on the origins of MMORPGs: In the future, we want to focus on MMORPGs that “are more fun when played with many players. […] The team has worked very hard on the contents of the 7.2x patches, and we believe that the amount of content is the largest ever.
In patch 7.2, alongside the new main story, a whole range of long-awaited content is also expected. You can already get a taste with the trailer:
The new patch is coming soon, but the best content is still to come
What has been announced for patch 7.2? After the last stream with Naoki Yoshida announced the majority of the content, more concrete information was provided on March 24, 2025.
Patch 7.21 will introduce the Cosmo Explorations. In this, players with crafting and gathering classes will build a base on the moon. From this base, they are expected to visit space and colonize other planets in later patches.
However, the probably most important content is Krezszentia, which will be implemented with patch 7.25. This is real MMORPG content: approximately 70 players per instance will fight across a large area with dynamically spawning combats and challenges. Once players have achieved certain objectives, a new 48-man dungeon will open up.
Patch 7.2 is scheduled to go live on March 25. The new 8-man raid will be available on April 1, just one week later. Players can start the Cosmo Explorations from April 22. Unfortunately, they will have to wait until May 27 for Kreszentia (via X).
How has Final Fantasy XIV been doing recently? As Yoshida mentioned in the interview, the developer focus has been on making the game more single-player friendly for a long time. This has often caused dissatisfaction among hardcore MMORPG fans.
Additionally, the story of the expansion Dawntrail was not received particularly well. However, the development team has recently received much praise for the new endgame activities: Especially the 8-man raid has pleased players. Their second roster of fights is also expected in patch 7.2.
However, since the MMORPG has recently offered the players fewer challenges on its own, the players are now creating challenges for themselves. After the last Ultimate was completed without a healer, which was considered essential, another team has now removed a role: Players are overcoming the most challenging content in MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV first without healers, and now without tanks
