It is a well-known fact that bugs and glitches are practically inevitable when launching new patches. They can often be quite annoying, but sometimes they provide a good laugh and give rise to new memes in the community.
So it is also in Final Fantasy XIV. A glitch creates a special spectacle: a cactus monster behaves quite unusually.
Glitch Grants Immortality
Since the release of patch 4.2, players have regularly reported in forums and on social media about monsters that keep running in circles while being invulnerable.
What this looks like in action is demonstrated by the player Kyulili Tanako with a video and the appropriate musical accompaniment:
The opponent in the video is called Sabotender Bailarina. It is an A-rank hunt monster, for which you receive hunting badges as a reward, among other things, which you can exchange for useful items.
Accordingly, the location of a hunt monster is usually publicly announced via /shout chat so that players can gather for the kill on-site.
Possible Trigger: Pathfinding Error
The exact cause of this is not known. However, it is suspected that it has something to do with the monsters’ pathfinding algorithm, as they all run up a ramp and then fall back down.

It also does not matter whether it is a single monster or smaller groups of monsters involved.

Overall, the glitch is harmless. Even though the monsters are invulnerable, they eventually manage to break free from the vicious cycle.
The bug was reported a week earlier in the official FFXIV forums, but the thread was commentlessly moved to the “Insufficient Information” sub-forum.
