From Friday, December 3, 2021, pre-order customers of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker can explore the new expansion and unlock two new jobs. In this guide, we at MeinMMO will explain how you can obtain the job Sage.
What can the Sage do? The Sage is one of the two new jobs coming with Endwalker. It is a shield healer, meaning it focuses on reducing incoming damage through the use of shields. However, the job also possesses a range of healing skills and can deal damage as well.
You even need to deal damage actively to use the special ability Kardia. Kardia is a type of enchantment placed on allies. As long as it is active, the ally will be healed whenever you deal damage.

How do you unlock the job Sage? To unlock the new job Sage, you need to complete a quest:
- Quest Name: The Sage’s Strange Work
- Location: Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (X:9.4 / Y:12.9)
- Quest Giver: Woman from the North
- Requirement: Ownership of the expansion Endwalker and at least one warrior or mage class at level 70
After unlocking, you will receive further quests that reveal more about the Sage’s story.
At what level does the Sage start? The new job is not assigned to any class. You will start directly at level 70 and can then progress to the new max level of 90 in Endwalker.
What armor does the Sage need? The new job will share its armor with other healers. Theoretically, you can equip yourself with appropriate gear in advance by exchanging Allagan Tomestones of Poetry for level 70 armor. You have until December 2 for this, as the game will go offline for server maintenance afterwards.
However, it can be assumed that the first quest will reward a case with basic equipment, just like it was with the Red Mage and Samurai in the Stormblood expansion or with the Dancer in Shadowbringers.
Can I prepare for unlocking otherwise? Yes, if you want to start unlocking immediately, you can log out directly at the quest location in Limsa Lominsa before maintenance starts on December 2 at 10:00 AM. This will give you a minimal advantage.
However, please keep in mind that many other people will be logging in there as well, and the zone may become congested.
