How do I earn Gil as quickly as possible in Final Fantasy XIV? We have the answer: with gathering professions.
A guide for farming may seem a bit strange at first. One is accustomed to World of Warcraft, where professions are quite simple. You simply ride or fly from one resource to another and collect them. To write about it, one could only list the routes.
For Final Fantasy XIV, it’s different. The system is extremely complex and shares many similarities with classic PvE content. Equipment needs to be maintained, and everything truly begins at the maximum level. There are two currencies, one of which has a weekly cap. An instance was also granted: the Diadem, an area that is wonderful for farming.
However, those who are not used to this scale may quickly feel overwhelmed by the numerous options. This guide helps you find your way. It was created in collaboration with YouTuber Charles Cimeaurant, from whom the embedded tutorial videos also come.
The Leveling Phase
If one thinks that the content begins only at the maximum level, they are right. The goal should be to reach level 50-60 as quickly as possible. Until then, the gathering profession plays out like those in other games. You travel from place to place and collect what you see.
First, you decide whether you want to level up quickly with little profit or slowly with more Gil in your pockets. For the former, collector’s leave papers are an option, which you unlock gradually. They provide relatively high experience points, but very little money. The alternative is to gather profitable resources.
Additionally, there are delivery quests from state companies. Besides a lot of experience points, you also receive state coins, which are needed as well. Delivering HQ items increases the bonus. Some of these missions are marked with a star, and their payment is higher. These quests should always be completed, even if you choose the slower path.
Before we begin and even during the process, one should prepare somewhat:
+3% routine from buff food
+10% routine from gathering routine bonus II of the Free Company
+50% routine from company guide “Survival Training I” or “Survival Training II”
+50% routine from rest bonus
Complete the class quest for new skills every 5 levels
Success streaks provide additional bonus routine, HQ provides more
This gives us a guaranteed bonus of +63% routine, as well as more from the success streak and the rest bonus.

You usually have the choice between several products. For this reason, it is important to open your collection book. It indicates which items can currently be collected. You then search for these in the market board. With the transaction history in the top right, you can determine how lucrative something is.
The prices vary from server to server, but there are some items that are always in demand:
Crystals for crafters, from level 20 you receive a gathering bonus
Treasure maps from level 40, give good drops, including for the anima weapon and can therefore be sold well
Hidden gathering spots can already be found at level 50
Dragon leather maps are needed for entry to the instance Aquapolis, can be found and sold once you reach level 60
Finally Level 60!
If you now think that you can simply gather anything arbitrarily, you are mistaken. The maximum level is only the beginning, not the end. Like with any other class, you first need equipment.
The Equipment
600 gathering skill is required to be truly effective. One option is a set of crafted HQ equipment. You can either buy it from the market board or gather or acquire the materials and find a crafter. The latter is usually cheaper. You need:
The main “weapon” can be purchased at Azys La from a vendor near the Aetheryte. This puts you at a gathering skill of 597, with only a +3 Materia needing to be inserted. The alternative is equipment made from blue gathering scrips. Buff food also provides some bonuses.

They are very similar to Allagan Stones. They are farmed among other things for equipment and come in two types: blue and red. The latter are limited to 450 per week. Blue scrips are needed for Almanacs to gather rare materials. On the other hand, with these, equipment can be acquired which can be upgraded with red scrips. The following video is directed at crafters but is also suitable for gatherers:

To obtain these scrips, collectibles must be turned in at Happy Hal. However, not all items are exchangeable, as the selection changes daily. Thus, it may be worthwhile to wait until a product that is easy to gather is requested. You do not necessarily have to go to the vendor; the timer “Rowena’s House of Wonders” also allows access to the list.
With the gathering command “Collecting Instinct”, the collectibles can be gathered. Once the item is selected, a new window will open.
There are five different gathering spots. Three of them are bound to an in-game timer. One Eorzea hour equals 3 minutes.
Normal Gathering Spots: They are the only ones not bound to a timer. The third appears whenever its two predecessors are gathered. The HQ chance is at most 15%.
Ephemeral Gathering Spots: These appear for 4 in-game hours. Each respawns when three gathering spots nearby have been selected, they do not have to be gathered. They are mainly used for refining.
Unspoiled Gathering Spots: These spots can be gathered twice a day for 50 in-game minutes.
Folklore Gathering Spots: They are very similar to unspoiled gathering spots but appear only once a day. Furthermore, they must be unlocked via the Almanacs and require a high gathering skill (600-720) and good perception for HQ (645-740). Hence they provide the most Gil.
Concealed Gathering Spots: Each grants a rare item. To find them, a favor item is required.
Refining (Atherial Reduction) and Favor
The condition is an item from an ephemeral gathering spot. Right-clicking on the item and selecting “Refine” opens a new window. The displayed purity level is determined by the gathering value. This also affects the outcome of the refinement. Low purity grants crystals, while higher levels yield various forms of soul sand.
Favor can be acquired through red gathering scrips. There are versions for gardeners (Favor of Nophica) and miners (Favor of Nald’thal). Using the item grants a 5-minute buff to discover hidden gathering spots. Since the time is very limited, it should be used effectively.
First, all gathering spots should be gathered down to the point where only one gathering attempt is left. Then, the favor item can be activated. Now, head to the previously prepared gathering locations. After each, there is a chance to discover a concealed gathering spot. This is immediately gathered, as only one can exist per map. After that, you can focus on the remaining prepared spots.

So is the gathering profession suitable for farming Gil? Of course! The effort is initially very high, but once you have the required equipment, you can earn a lot. Furthermore, you have the freedom of choice; there is not a single item to farm. You can refine or try to seek out the slightly rarer gathering spots. You just need to see which item is currently selling well on the market board.
However, even those who do not want to earn Gil but also want to help others can do so with gathering professions. Weavers always need items from gardeners for fabrics, and crafters always need those from miners. The equipment produced from this is not useless, as it provides a significant time advantage for new players. Professions are also involved in anima weapons. And with treasure maps, you also get some extras for new companions.
Additionally, it offers a refreshing change. Not only to PvE content but also to the gathering professions from other games. There is much more to do, and new gameplay content is regularly introduced. That alone justifies testing these professions at least.
