The fantasy MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV adopts a “zero tolerance” policy against gold sellers. Over 5000 were banned from the game just last week.
In the last week, over 5000 accounts were permanently banned from Final Fantasy XIV for being associated with “RMT” (Real-Money Trading). This is what it’s called when players or organizations try to turn “in-game currency” into real money and thereby profit.
1045 were banned for advertising gold seller sites, 4362 for direct participation in such activities. Only 28 accounts managed to escape lightly, receiving only temporary bans.
Square Enix announces that it will continue to take a hard stance in the future and asks honest players to make use of the reporting feature.
