The fantasy MMO Final Fantasy XIV is getting its first expansion “Heavensward” in Spring 2015.
Wow, that came as a surprise. With a tweet, Square Enix announced that the first expansion for the game, Heavensward, will be released in Spring 2015. This was revealed at the Fan Festival this weekend. The producer of Final Fantasy XIV, the mastermind Naoki Yoshida, gave the “Keynote”, the most important speech of the event. Here is the tweet:

Level cap raised to 60, new jobs and a new race are coming
Not much is known about the expansion yet, only that it will likely be frosty. A while ago, the producer of the game Naoki Yoshida had already mentioned that with 3.0 (i.e., with the expansion) they want to raise the level cap. This is proving true: the level cap will likely rise from 50 to 60 levels – and yes, this also applies to the crafting professions.
Additionally, they plan to introduce a new race (both male and female) and various new jobs (the prestige classes) in Final Fantasy. Right now, the wires are hot; new information about the game is coming in: Airships will likely play a big role, at least that is what some fans deduce from Yoshida’s cryptic hints. New Primals are also expected, one of which will be exclusively designed for FF XIV.
Extensive expansion with airships, dark setting
The expansion is generally said to lean towards “Dark Fantasy”, maintaining a more serious background. Square Enix intends to work hard; they are not talking about just 3 or 4 new instances, but significantly more, it was said. High-level raids are also set to come with Heavensward.
We will certainly hear more about this in the coming days – although they want to save some announcements about the jobs, which is of interest to most, for around October 25 and the fan fest in London. Regardless of the festivals, it is definitely a good day for Final Fantasy fans.
Oh, there is also a trailer to get into the mood:
