In the new expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, Endwalker, two new jobs will be playable. Here’s what we already know about them.
In a special stream for the addon, two new jobs were announced that will be available with Endwalker in autumn 2021. There will be a new healer class and a new physical melee fighter.
The Sage
This is the new healer: The Sage will be the 4th healer job in FFXIV:
- Weapon: Noulith
- Type: Shield healer
- Required class: none
- Starting level: 70
- Location: The starting quest that unlocks the Sage will be located in Limsa Lominsa

This is how the Sage’s gameplay will be: In battle, the Sage uses his weapon Noulith to keep the group alive. It consists of 4 ether-charged “staffs” that float around the character, and through them, he directs his abilities.
The Sages will be able to briefly “manipulate” their magical abilities or change them in battle to make them stronger.
In the reveal, Director Yoshida referred to the Sage as a “shield healer.” This means that he will have the ability to protect the group with shields and minimize incoming damage, similar to the Scholar.
However, the way the Sage uses his shields is said to differ from the Scholar. Yoshida stated this in an interview with the Japanese website 2chblog:
The key point to note here is the difference in player experience. While both the Scholar and the Sage will be shield healers, the approach and the specifics of barrier usage for the two jobs will be different.

The Second Secret Job
What we know about the second job: While the Sage was thoroughly covered in the Endwalker announcement, the second new job remains a secret. However, there are some details that are known about it.
First, it will fill the role of the physical melee fighter in the group, which means the same role as Ninja, Monk, Dragoon, and Samurai. In an interview with 2chblog, Yoshida explained that the new melee fighter will wear the same armor class as the Dragoon.
If we only look at the various [armor] slots, the Dragoon is in a unique position. It makes sense, therefore, that we start here and decided to take a melee fighter as our second new job.

The Dragoon is currently the only job that wears the armor class with the suffix “of the Mutilation.” The new melee fighter would fill this gap in Endwalker.
Speculations: Following the announcement that there would be two new jobs, the community immediately jumped into speculations. As always, all eyes were on the t-shirts that Director Yoshida wore during the presentation and the producer stream afterward.
In the past, his shirts have provided hints about classes that came with new addons. The fact that the new melee fighter belongs to the armor class of Mutilation led players to speculate about jobs like Mystic Knight, Reaper, or Sword Saint (via reddit).
When will we know more? The reveal of the second new job will take a little longer. The digital fan festival will take place on May 15 and 16, where further information about the new expansion Endwalker will be released. This will also include details about the new mysterious melee fighter job.
