Final Fantasy XIV presents details about the Heavensward expansion, the 3.0 update. New race Au Ra will be introduced, along with three new classes: the Dark Knight, the Machinist, and the Astrologian, and players will even be able to ride dragons.
In October, Final Fantasy announced that with the Heavensward expansion, there will be new classes and new races. The Dark Knight, a type of dark paladin, has already been introduced.
Now there was the Fan Festival in Tokyo, and Square Enix revealed more details and is departing from the previous conditions of the job system. The new jobs will start directly “in their job”. Players will not have to level a base class to 30 to take the “advanced” route.
The new race Au Ra: Reptilian
The new race Au Ra has been specifically developed for Final Fantasy XIV. They hail from Othard and members of this race have slightly curved horns and scaled skin.
While the men are muscular, the women appear more elegant and mysterious.
The NPC Yugiri Mistwalker, who has been in FF XIV since 2.2, is a female Au Ra and is characterized by a reptilian tail.
The videos were pulled by the US site dualshockers from a Japanese live stream, so the quality is not as strong as usual.
New Job: Astrologian
The Astrologian will be a new healing job in Final Fantasy XIV.
The Astrologian’s preferred weapon is a “Star Globe,” whatever that may be. The Astrologian draws their spells as a type of tarot card.
You will not need a base class to play the Astrologian, they start directly with the new job.
New Job: Machinist
The Machinist is a ranged DPS class that does not rely on a bow, but rather on a gun.
Players will not need a base class to start as a Machinist in Final Fantasy XIV, they can begin directly as a Machinist.
The guns can be modified, and the Machinist can also deploy turrets.
New Mount: Dr… Dr… Dragon!
As a new and particularly spectacular mount, players will be able to ride a mighty dragon in Heavensward. Players will likely befriend it during the story.
In the video, you can see the Dark Knight, the black knight:
The release date for the Heavensward expansion on PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 is set for Spring 2015. Find out more about FF XIV on our topic page.
