The Dawntrail DLC for Final Fantasy XIV features many new enemies for players to confront. Additionally, there are cuddly animals that are kept as livestock by the NPCs. However, for a hunting quest, these adorable mammals become the target.
What kind of animals are they? In Dawntrail, there is a new race called Pelupelu, who live in Urqopacha. The city appears to be inspired by Peru. This is supported by some details of the new race:
- They are traveling merchants.
- They keep alpacas as livestock.
- They are appreciated for their local products like tea, coffee, and mezcal.
Especially the sweet alpacas with their button eyes and slight smiles have captured the hearts of many players. They travel with the Pelupelu and are the ideal companions to transport their goods from one place to another. Unfortunately, the adorable animals become the target of a new quest that some players are faced with.
This is what the new environment in Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail looks like:
Players have to force themselves to take care of the alpacas for the quest
What kind of quest is it? Dawntrail not only introduces new NPCs but also new hunt targets. In these missions, specific monsters need to be killed for players to receive their rewards. They can be found at the hunt board in the capital and change daily. The new DLC features several normal and elite foes that must be defeated.
And this is where the alpacas come into play: One of the beginner missions involves killing two of the fluffy creatures. Many players find this so difficult that they share their inner turmoil on X.
For example, LvnderMooncat writes that she has done a lot for experience points. But she doesn’t know if she can bring herself to kill the sweet alpacas. Therefore, a user in the comments suggests that she should just close her eyes and press the buttons:
Minutes later, she tweets that she has actually managed to bring herself to kill the alpaca. However, her companion, a small gray cat, would give her a look that makes her feel like a monster.
In the comments, she apologizes for her behavior. She says that killing the alpacas is not worth the reward at all. Other users chime in, saying that they too apologized the entire time while killing and found it unfair that there had to be two of them on their conscience.
How did you handle the quest? Do you ignore the hunt quests? Or are you just as cold-hearted in killing the alpacas?
