The fantasy MMO Final Fantasy XIV is celebrating the past year with an elaborate trailer and is apparently quite proud of what has happened.
With all the horror stories regarding MMOs, every time a news piece about Final Fantasy XIV is written, it feels a little like a perfect world. Sure, the game has problems. After the disastrous launch a few years ago, when FF XIV had to be removed from the market, every story still sounds like a fairy tale. And when you look at what has happened in the past year and where Final Fantasy XIV stands now, you have to nod appreciatively.
The MMO is certainly not for everyone; especially in Europe, there are some issues with its visual style, but the amount of content being released, how much is being developed, how clearly the plans for the future are being communicated is something many fans of other MMOs would wish for from their games as well. It remains soberly stated: Final Fantasy XIV has become a cross-platform game, it sticks to the criticized pay-to-play model (which supposedly never succeeds except for WoW), and it grows and thrives.
In a trailer, Square Enix reflects on the eventful past year.
