The fantasy MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is experiencing issues with the Mac version of the game and is now responding to it. They had published the wrong system requirements.
The mastermind behind Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida, acknowledges difficulties with the Mac version, which have gone so far that they are guaranteeing customers a full refund, regardless of whether they purchased directly from Square Enix or through a retailer. Additionally, they are temporarily suspending sales of the Mac version.
Incorrect system requirements were circulating
The issue is primarily seen in that they did not clearly communicate the system requirements beforehand, resulting in some Mac owners purchasing Final Fantasy XIV, only to find that it did not run properly.
The problem arose because they had been working on performance improvements until the client release and therefore prepared several versions of the system requirements. They intended to decide at the last moment which system requirements to officially release.
In the chaos of the release of Heavensward , they then published the wrong ones, causing some players to purchase Final Fantasy XIV under the assumption it would run on their systems, only to be disappointed.
Yoshida took responsibility for this, apologized to the buyers, and has now assured refunds. Additionally, they are temporarily suspending sales. Sales of the Mac version will resume as soon as they are satisfied with the product information and details about the system requirements.
