Bots are a plague in MMORPGs and Final Fantasy XIV is no exception. A random boss monster ruined the evening for a group of bots and earned applause for it.
What happened? Player Akiha Rumiho wanted to quietly complete his quests in FFXIV to progress in the story. However, while exploring one of the areas of the MMORPG, he encountered a large group of bots that suddenly appeared at the teleport crystal.
They had apparently been killed by something and teleported back to the crystal. When they resurrected, they immediately hacked their way back to their farming spot. And were killed again.
After some searching in the area, the player discovered what was killing the bots:
The hunting monster Ghede Ti Malice is a type of mini world boss in Final Fantasy XIV. There are such monsters in every non-instanced area and they are usually much stronger than other mobs.
Previously, Ghede, along with other hunting monsters, was regularly killed by players. Nowadays, hunting in low-level 50 areas is rather rare.
As a result, Ghede Ti Malice was able to slice through the groups of bots that appeared right next to him without disturbance. The bots were programmed to continuously move back to the spot where the monster expected them and were caught in a cycle of death.
Even though it probably wasn’t a major loss for the bots, the boss monster cost them quite a bit of progress. Another such hunting monster, however, has brought many laughs to the players.

While Ghede wasn’t celebrated massively with thousands of upvotes, some players still expressed their delight about the incident. The top comment in the thread even nominated Ghede for a position as a Game Master.
The fight against windmills
The problem with bots and RMTs (Real Money Traders) is not new in FFXIV or in many other MMORPGs.
At the launch of the expansion Shadowbringers, FFXIV experienced a surge in bot and gold seller activity. During that time, Square Enix terminated over 30,000 accounts within a month.
Ban waves occur weekly and ban several thousand accounts at a time. Since early June, according to reports on the FFXIV main page, Lodestone, about 11,000 accounts have been banned for botting and gold-selling activities.
However, the botters don’t give up and continually create new accounts. That’s where the help from a monster in the game comes in handy.
