In Final Fantasy XIV there are countless cool, cute, and fancy mounts. Here are 35 mounts that you can get quite early in the game or in the free trial version.
Here’s the deal: When you start an MMORPG that has been around for a long time, you see players everywhere with really cool outfits, weapons, and other cosmetic items as a newcomer. And of course, you want them too. You could reach for your wallet and go wild in the cash shop, but there are other ways.
In this list, we show you a number of cool and fancy mounts that you can earn already at low levels. “Low levels” are defined here as level 60 and below. Because although the highest level in FFXIV is 90, at level 60 you are still far from the endgame of the MMORPG.
Additionally, 60 is the maximum level in the free trial version of FFXIV. As a trial player, you don’t have to miss out on traveling through Eorzea on stylish steeds. These mounts are relatively easy to obtain or require “only” time-consuming grinding.
Mounts you receive automatically
Some cool mounts are available to you automatically in FFXIV. The main story quest runs through the entire game, and along the way, you will receive the above 4 mounts as gifts until the end of the Heavensward expansion. You just have to follow the quests.
- Magitek Battle Machine is the first
- Then you get the black flight-chocobo
- Then the Manaschnitter
- and finally Midgarsormr
Mounts from Primals battles
You can obtain these mounts from the primal exversions that came to FFXIV with “A Realm Reborn.” Their difficulty is set to level 50, making them quite easy to farm for a small group of level 60 players.
Of course, they are even easier if there is a level 90 player with you. So if you can briefly ask a high-level friend or acquaintance for help, these fights will be a piece of cake. The drop rate of the mounts is also quite high now, and if you catch them all (except Nightmare), you can unlock the stylish Kirin.
- Xanthos drops in the content Peak of the Gods: Garuda
- Markab drops in the content Peak of the Gods: Ramuh
- Gullfaxi drops in the content Peak of the Gods: Titan
- Enbarr drops in the content Peak of the Gods: Leviathan
- Boreas drops in the content Peak of the Gods: Shiva
- Aithon drops in the content Peak of the Gods: Ifrit
- Nightmare drops in the content Peak of the Gods: Garuda, Ifrit, and Titan
- Kirin is obtained after acquiring all mounts except Nightmare from the quest “A Legend for a Legend” in Mor Dhona (X: 21.7 / Y: 8.7)
Mounts from the Restoration of Ishgard
These mounts are interesting for those of you who enjoy crafting and gathering resources in MMORPGs. They are available in the Restoration of Ishgard, which can be unlocked at level 60:
- Quest Name: Towards the Sky
- Location: Foundation (X: 9.7 / Y: 11.5)
- “NPC”: Official Application
Once unlocked, you can start immediately with any crafting class from level 20 and gathering class from level 10. You create items or gather resources that the NPCs want from you, and in return, you receive Sky City construction stones, which you can exchange at the NPC Enie for various rewards, including mounts.
- Albino Karakul, Antelope Cow, Ufiti, Giant Crab, and Megalotragus each cost 8,400 tokens
- Pegasus costs 4,200 tokens
Additionally, crafters receive stamps and coupons for the crafting of items that correspond to their current level. There is a small lottery where you can also win one of the mounts. So, in FFXIV, you don’t always have to dive into battles to obtain new mounts.
Mounts for Achievement Certificates
Achievements are now an integral part of gaming, and so there is also a huge number of achievements in FFXIV that you can collect. For these achievements, you receive different amounts of points, and these points are converted into certificates.
For every 50 achievement points, you receive 1 certificate. You can exchange these with the NPC Jonathas in Old Gridania (X: 10.6 / Y: 6.2) for rewards, including the above 3 mounts.
Especially as a newcomer, you are practically showered with achievement points. You earn points for:
- Leveling up classes
- Revealing maps
- Completing dungeons, free companies, and certain FATEs
Just for uncovering all maps in La Noscea, there are 60 points, meaning 1 certificate just for a bit of running around. The mounts each cost 6 certificates. So you can comfortably farm them on the side while playing through the MMORPG.
Of course, there are also various other mounts that you can obtain through achievements. Many PvP or tanking achievements will lead you to new mounts. However, they require more grinding.
Mounts of the Beast Tribes
The tribes in FFXIV are initially introduced to newcomers as enemies. They attack you upon your arrival in the starting area and are encountered as monsters in the open world. However, they can also become allies.
In special quests, you can gain the trust of certain tribes and improve your reputation with them. This starts quite early. The tribes from “A Realm Reborn” can be unlocked at level 41, after completing the story quest “The Dragon of the Stone Watch.” Those in Heavensward become available starting at level 50.
However, there are two catches:
- The quests are daily quests. This means you face long grinding until you reach the necessary reputation levels
- The mounts are not given to you for free, but cost Gil, which can be scarce early in the game.
They are divided into combat and crafter/gatherer dailies, so there is something for every player type. The following beast tribes are available to you:
- The Amalj’aa grant you the Riding Dragon
- The Sylphs grant you the Laurel Goobbue
- The Sahagin grant you the Cavalry Albst
- The Goblins grant you the Bomber Palanquin
- The Moogles grant you the Bommelin
- The Vath grant you Kongamato
- The Vanu Vanu grant you the Sanuwa
Mounts from the Gold Saucer
The Gold Saucer casino in FFXIV is bursting with mini-games that you can complete to earn the currency MGP. You can then exchange this MGP at the NPCs for various rewards. This includes several mounts.
The Gold Saucer can be unlocked and entered as early as level 15 by the NPC “Wealthy Young Man” (Uldah, Nald Crossroad X: 9.6 / Y: 9), and you can spend as much time there as you want. Therefore, these cool and fancy mounts are available quite early in the game. However, there is a catch: some of them require a lot of grinding.
But if you found joy in mini-games like Mahjong or Triple Triad, you can also collect a ton of MGP for the mounts on the side.
- Adaman Taimai requires 200,000 MGP
- Master Typhon, Coloss Korpokkur, and Exegeten Throne require 750,000 MGP each
- Fenrir requires 1,000,000 MGP
- Imperator Cactuar requires a whopping 2,000,000 MGP
