The developers of Final Fantasy XIV enjoy introducing aspects into the game only to then send them into obscurity for years. Here are 3 of them.
A prime example of this is the story surrounding the 24-man raid Crystal Tower, which suddenly became the center of attention with the expansion Shadowbringers. A whole range of characters were only introduced and then seemingly forgotten.
However, I have no doubt that all the old and forgotten aspects of the story will reappear sooner or later. Here are three possible candidates for that.

The Heart of Sabik
Even though it’s unlikely that anyone has actually forgotten the Heart of Sabik, it still tops this list. It is one of those things that the community has regarded as plot holes for years.
What is the Heart of Sabik? The Heart was mentioned for the first and only time during the battle against Ultima at the end of 2.0, as it served as the energy source for the weapon. It allowed the weapon to absorb the energy from primals and contained the powerful magic of Ultima.
The Heart is an ancient artifact whose origin dates back even before the formation of the Allagan Empire. Its power, according to Lahabrea’s unbearable rambling in the Praetorium, was “not even remotely understood by the Allagans.”
Interestingly, Lahabrea refers to the Heart of Sabik as the “culminated power of darkness.” Based on this, we could assume that the Heart should have a direct connection to Zodiark. Some fan theories even suggest that it could be a shard of Zodiark.
After the events in the Praetorium, the Heart of Sabik disappears into obscurity for a whopping 4 years. Aside from being reminded of it during every MSQ roulette, it didn’t appear in the story otherwise.
Why might it become important again? It probably won’t come as a great surprise if the Heart plays a significant role in upcoming patches. After all, the “Sorrow of Werlyt” questline revolves around the weapons built on the model of Ultima.
Gaius says in one of the cutscenes from 5.2 that Ruby Weapon and the entire weapon program have stemmed from him and he now wants to ensure it is ended once and for all.
The Heart itself is explicitly mentioned only in the lyrics of the themesong of Ruby Weapon. And even though it would have a certain humorous value if the choir in the song actually sang
