Patch 3.35 in Final Fantasy XIV aims to bring all players together with the Deep Dungeon while still being challenging.
What is the Deep Dungeon in Final Fantasy XIV?
At Kotaku, during E3, there was an opportunity to speak with Game Director Naoki Yoshida, who shared some insights about the “Deep Dungeon” that will appear in Patch 3.35.
Essentially, the “Deep Dungeon – Palace of the Dead” is designed to be accessible to as many players as possible. For this reason, players can dive into the chaos starting from level 17 – but it’s not that simple. There are supposed to be more than 50 different floors that deviate from what Final Fantasy players are accustomed to. During their stay, players will receive new gear and weapons, but these will only work within this zone – at least until they earn the right to take the items outside.
The stay is quite tough and can sometimes be frustrating – as there are checkpoints only every 10th floor. So if you perish on level 19, you fall back to floor 10.
The Deep Dungeon is also supposed to be dynamic and adjust to the group. Anyone can venture out alone or bring up to 3 friends. Healers and tanks are not strictly required; everyone should be able to play what they want.
Veterans of the series might feel reminded of the single-player titles – there was often an “endgame dungeon” here that featured numerous levels and was usually more difficult than the actual final boss of the game.
The release of the Deep Dungeon will not be the end of this feature – later, additional levels will be added that will increase in difficulty. A specific release date for Patch 3.35 is still pending.
