What is FIFA Mobile? FIFA Mobile (or “FIFA Football” in the German app store) is the iOS and Android offshoot of the FIFA series that you can play on current smartphones. The new season started in the game on January 18, 2022, bringing some changes and aiming to attract new players.
Importantly, this is not a direct mobile version of FIFA 22 in the strict sense, as is the case with some other games. You are not playing a port of FIFA 22 with crossplay for mobile, but an independent game.
Consequently, you will not achieve any progress in console/PC FIFA while playing FIFA Mobile. The two are really not connected.
Nevertheless, downloading it can be quite exciting if you are simply looking for a soccer game for your smartphone. To give you an idea of what FIFA Mobile has to offer, we present to you what the game contains.
How much FIFA 22 is in FIFA Mobile?
If you launch FIFA Mobile for the first time, you will quickly recognize some elements if you usually play FIFA 22. Even the menu aesthetics look very much like the main game in the newly launched season 6. There are also some contents that closely resemble FIFA 22:
- In FIFA Mobile, you can also build a team in typical Ultimate Team fashion and play Division Rivals. The FUT packs are also present in FIFA Mobile.
- There is a “Kickoff” mode, which here serves more as an introduction to the game mechanics.
- There are quests that work a bit like the season progress and provide rewards.
- The soundtrack also resembles that of the “big brother” FIFA 22.
- There is real-time 11 vs 11.
- A large number of licensed players and icons, also the Champions League is on board.
- However, options like the career mode are missing.
However, once you get into the game, you quickly notice that it is, in comparison, a “trimmed down” version of FIFA. This is also evident from the contents that are presented as new features for the new season of FIFA Mobile. These are primarily things that are already known from the “big” FIFAs, such as:
- Improved graphics with more details.
- On certain devices, up to 60 FPS is possible.
- Player stamina that decreases over the course of the match.
- Soccer sounds including stadium atmosphere and commentators in various languages.
- New skill moves that complement the previous repertoire.
- Team management features like substitutions, positions, and setting player roles like captain or penalty taker.
- New camera options.
Through these options, the mobile version improves and comes closer to FIFA 22. However, one should not expect as comprehensive an experience as in the main game.
However, FIFA Mobile also has features that FIFA 22 does not possess.
- Particularly interesting is that you can improve your players in the team through skill boosts and training ranks. Even the overall rating of the players can be increased.
- Furthermore, the “numbers” differ a bit compared to FIFA 22. Overall ratings can even rise above 100, while in the main game, 99 was the maximum so far. You will also notice a difference in the coins – they are worth much less in FIFA Mobile than in FIFA 22.
- There is a special mode called “VS Attack”. Here you only play different offensive situations with a time limit of 90 seconds instead of a full game – and in the end, it is determined who scored more goals. A refreshing change from the usual gameplay.
Is the game worth it for FIFA 22 fans? It depends on what you expect from the game. If you want a 1-to-1 transfer of the familiar game, this is not the place. Also, if you want to gain mobile advantages for your console Ultimate Team, you won’t achieve anything with FIFA Mobile – because that is simply not possible. You could rather tinkering with the team in the Companion App that belongs to FIFA 22.
However, if you are simply looking for a soccer game for your smartphone that also features the real licenses of real players and icons, you are in the right place. The atmosphere in the stadium is also a lot of fun, and the visuals are impressive for a mobile game.
What is crucial is that the matches are quite intuitive to play. The touch-adapted control system is learned quickly in the tutorial and can then be used in matches after a bit of adjustment for shots, passes, through balls, crosses, tackles, and skill moves.
Depending on how quickly you adapt to the various tap-and-swipe techniques, you can create diverse offensive and defensive patterns – even if you cannot rely on the familiar controllers.
So: if you simply want to play a bit of soccer with good vibes on your phone, downloading FIFA Mobile might be worth it for you. Just don’t expect the complete FIFA package. However, if you want to progress in the “real” Ultimate Team or continue your career mode, FIFA 22 is your only option.
