In FIFA 23 the first “Live Tuning Update” is now available. This adjusts the gameplay for the first time – but only very slightly.
What kind of update is this? “Live Tuning Updates” are smaller updates, as opposed to the large “Title Updates”. Usually, no major download is required for these, but you may need to exit FIFA 23 and restart it to activate it.
The Live Tuning Update comes shortly after the first Title Update, which is supposed to fix PC issues. The Live Update is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Stadia.
It brings the first gameplay changes.

What’s in the update? Overall, four points are addressed.
- The accuracy of penalties will decrease if you let the “Composure Ring” fluctuate in the yellow or red area.
- Referees will call fewer fouls on collisions involving arms.
- Referees should also be more likely to issue a yellow card if a foul is committed through a hard slide tackle.
- Additionally, the animation for “Technical Dribbling” will be faster for low-rated dribblers. This affects players whose dribbling stats are below 90.
What is Technical Dribbling in FIFA 23? In the Pitch Notes for FIFA 23, “technical dribbling” is described as the “new standard dribbling style with the left stick” (via EA.com).
It refers to the dribbling animations you get when you use only the left stick. These are now supposed to become faster for weak dribblers.
In the first days of FIFA 23, some players noted that dribbling felt sluggish. It is possible that this change will come as a relief to them – although it remains to be seen how comprehensive the change actually is. After all, it is a Live Tuning Update, not a Title Update.
Moreover, only those with dribbling below 90 are affected. Therefore, no effect should be noticeable for top dribblers at first.
