The FIFA 23 release is approaching, and now there are also first details about new features in the game. We will show you the most important ones.
When does FIFA 23 come out? FIFA 23 will be officially released on September 30, 2022, for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Stadia. The Ultimate Edition will grant access starting September 27.
What is known now: In addition to the new trailer, which features the revised version of the animation technology “HyperMotion”, EA Sports also released some fresh information about what you can expect in the new FIFA.
We will show you the most important innovations that were presented today.
FIFA 23 Crossplay: Who can play with whom?
This is what crossplay can do in FIFA 23: As EA announced, FIFA 23 will feature a crossplay component in 1-on-1 modes. So if you want to compete with your Ultimate Team against friends, that will be possible across platforms.
However, game modes beyond 1-on-1 seem to be excluded for now. This would affect Pro Clubs, for example.
Additionally, there are different groups in crossplay that can play with each other.
- The “OldGen” group can play with each other. This includes PS4 and Xbox One.
- The NextGen group can also play among themselves. This includes PS5, Xbox Series X | S, Stadia, and this year also PC.
The PC catches up: The crossplay shows that the PC version of FIFA 23 will catch up to the same technical standard as the NextGen consoles after much criticism last year. In FIFA 22, PC players had to play a downgraded version.
With crossplay, expanded anti-cheat measures will also be implemented for the PC version. EA intends to provide more information in the future.
New transfer market: With crossplay, a change in the transfer market in Ultimate Team is also being made. Instead of each platform having its own market, it will now look like this:
- The first transfer market will be shared by PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia.
- The second transfer market belongs to PC.
- The third transfer market belongs to Nintendo Switch.
FIFA 23 will feature new content for two World Championships
The football World Championship is expected to play an important role in FIFA 23. However, it is a novelty that there are two World tournaments included in a FIFA game.
On one hand, there is the men’s World Championship, which will take place in winter 2022. This period after the release and around Christmas is traditionally when FIFA releases attract the most attention and when many people play.
We also know that the World Cup will play a role in Ultimate Team: There will officially be new “FIFA World Cup FUT Heroes” available, improved World Cup versions of the hero cards in Ultimate Team. In this context, EA introduced three new heroes on the official website:
- Yaya Touré
- Park Ji Sung
- Carvalho
According to rumors, the World Cup will also bring new national teams into the game.
The second World Championship is the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, which will take place next year from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand. It is fitting that Australian striker Sam Kerr is featured alongside Kylian Mbappé on the cover of FIFA 23.
Both tournaments are expected to receive substantial attention in FIFA 23 and will bring in new content as updates during the game. However, it is not yet clear in what form this will happen.
FIFA 23: New women’s clubs are joining
The fact that women will play a larger role in FIFA 23 is not only indicated by Sam Kerr on the cover: Several clubs from women’s football will be included in FIFA 23.
Previously, players could only use women in national teams or create their own female avatar in modes like Volta. With club football, another component is being added.
HyperMotion 2 aims to further improve gameplay
What is HyperMotion? The term “HyperMotion” is already known by players from FIFA 22. Here, real players were put into performance suits to compete against each other. From this data, numerous animations were created that were intended to provide a more realistic gameplay experience in FIFA 22.
HyperMotion 2 is likely to be an expansion of this system, bringing more animations and elements to the game to make it even more realistic and varied.
However, there is a catch: This feature will again only be available for the NextGen version – not on PS4 or Xbox One.
