In FIFA 23 the POTM Messi has been released. You can now obtain the card through an SBC. But is the solution worth it?
This is POTM Messi: A “POTM” is the “Player of the Month,” meaning the player of the month. This title exists in various leagues, and in the French Ligue 1, Lionel Messi has now received it.
The POTM can now be unlocked through a “Squad Building Challenge” (SBC). There you need to exchange several teams full of players to get the POTM Messi card.

In terms of stats, the upgrade is not very significant. There’s exactly one point added to all stats, and the overall rating also increases by one point.
Weak foot, skill moves, and low work rates offensively and defensively – these remain the same. He also has the “Explosive” running style, not the strong “Lengthy” running style.
The biggest difference aside from the card design is the new position: you can play POTM Messi as a CAM, meaning in the central attacking midfield. He doesn’t have alternative positions. The gold card plays on the right wing, with an alternative position RM.
Is the POTM Messi SBC worth it in FIFA 23?
This is what you need to do for POTM Messi: There are a total of 6 teams that you need to exchange.
- An 84-rated team with a PSG player and a TOTW
- An 85-rated team with an Argentinian and a TOTW
- An 86-rated team with a Ligue 1 player and at least one player over 87 rating
- An 87-rated team with a TOTW player
- An 87-rated team with at least one player over 88 rating
- An 88-rated team
How expensive is the SBC? Players on futbin are already compiling the first solutions. As of now, the SBC requires players worth about 780,000 coins (via futbin).
This only applies if you need to buy all the players new. If you already have suitable players in your club, for example from Division Rivals rewards, you can use them and only spend coins to buy additional players.
Furthermore, it is quite possible that the SBC’s price will drop in the coming hours and days, as the transfer market in FIFA 23 is subject to constant fluctuations. Players that fit the SBC can be particularly expensive shortly after release.
Is the solution for POTM Messi worth it? With only one point overall upgrade and the CAM position, the changes compared to the regular card are quite minimal. The gold card is currently available for a price of about 241,000 coins on the transfer market.
So shortly after the release of the SBC, the price for POTM Messi seems quite expensive. It’s best to complete the SBC now only if you already have many suitable players in your club and want to exchange them for Messi. If you have to rely heavily on the transfer market, the gold Messi card is more advisable – or else wait until the price has dropped.
POTM Messi will be available until November 20, 2022. Therefore, it is not absolutely necessary to solve the SBC quickly. If you want to do it, you might first collect rewards from the Weekend League to use in the SBC afterwards.
