FIFA 23 has changed the chemistry system in FUT and introduced a new form of position changes. We will take a closer look at the position modifier here.
What’s new? When looking at the chemistry topic in FUT: A lot. Because the basic system has been completely revised after many years for the FIFA 23 release.
- You can find an exact insight into the chemistry system in FIFA 23 here.
In this article, we will take a closer look at one aspect of this system: The position change.
This is how position changes work in FIFA 23
What changes regarding positions in FIFA 23: In FIFA 23, each player has a limited number of positions that grant chemistry boosts. These “alternative positions” specify where you should place your player for optimal performance.
For example, take Kylian Mbappé: The Frenchman is usually a striker (ST) and has this position on his card. However, he has two alternative positions:
- CF (Center Forward)
- LW (Left Wing)
Previously, you could have, for example, trained Mbappé as a CDM (Central Defensive Midfielder) using position items in FIFA 22. This is no longer possible. He can only play as ST, CF, or LW to receive chemistry boosts.
How to use the position modifier in FIFA 23?
How do I activate the alternative positions? Unfortunately, the player’s position doesn’t adjust automatically. You need a so-called “position modifier” – that is the only position item that still exists.
You can apply this modifier to the players whose positions you want to change. Then you can select from the available alternative positions. If you want to retrain the player, you need another modifier.
- You cannot place players anywhere you want.
- You must adhere to their possible positions.
How do I get the position modifier in FIFA 23? It can be purchased on the transfer market under “consumables”, or you can find it in packs.
Why is the correct position so important? In FIFA 23, only players standing in their exact correct position receive a chemistry boost. Even more importantly: They only contribute to the chemistry of their other players and the total chemistry when they are in the correct position.
If a player is in the wrong position, instead of a chemistry bonus, only a warning exclamation mark is displayed. This also applies if players are in very similar positions – like CM to CAM or RWB to RB. There is no wiggle room here.
For example: A team full of English players, all in the wrong positions, will score no points in total chemistry. Especially concerning SBCs, the correct position is even more important than before – because previously, players could at least contribute to total chemistry even if they stood in goal as strikers.
A plus point is, however, that players without any chemistry no longer receive any stat penalties – they only receive no extra boosts from chemistry styles. They are still at a disadvantage compared to players in the correct position, but they are at least not worse than the stats on their card.
