FIFA 23 is still a few months away, but discussions about new content are already underway. Will new leagues and clubs make it into the game?
No football game can showcase as many real leagues, clubs, and players as the FIFA series. This aspect of realism is perhaps the greatest argument that FIFA has over other football simulations. Leading your favorite club to worldwide fame – that can be a lot of fun.
However, not every single club in the world is represented in the game, and some leagues are still missing. Could FIFA 23 gain new additions in this regard? We take a look at current leaks and information.
According to leaks: Major club returns in FIFA 23, another one disappears
What you need to keep in mind: The following leaks are currently unconfirmed information that does not come from official sources. It is therefore possible that they may appear in a different form or not at all in FIFA 23.
However, they originate from sources that have proven to be very reliable in providing new information about FIFA in the past.
This list will be continuously updated as new information becomes available.
Major club returns: Twitter user “DonkTrading” (via Twitter) reported back in early June that we might welcome a new, old club back: Juventus Turin is reportedly on its way back to the FIFA series.
The outcry was immense when the Italian top club entered into an exclusive partnership with Konami and their game Pro Evolution Soccer. The consequence in FIFA: The players were still there, but the club was now called “Piemonte Calcio”, complete with fake logo and fake kits.
This is set to be a thing of the past in FIFA 23: Juventus Turin is reportedly called Juventus Turin again.
Napoli disappears in return: While Juve is back on board, we will likely have to say goodbye to SSC Napoli. Because Napoli has entered into a deal with Konami that will take effect starting this season.
What the restructuring of the club in FIFA 23 will look like is currently unknown. A scenario like that of Juventus Turin, with a false name, logo, and kit is likely. But it remains to be hoped that the players will still be included in the game. Also, the Italian Serie A itself should probably remain.
Is a new league coming? A leak from Donk also suggests that the fifth tier of English football could be introduced in FIFA 23. Accordingly, the relevant clubs have been added – however, it has not yet been confirmed that the league will actually be coming.
This would be exciting for career mode, as England would then have five whole leagues to play through to reach the top. In comparison: In Germany, there are “only” three leagues in FIFA 22. And the complicated regional league system being implemented in FIFA 23 seems rather unlikely.
New leagues in women’s football: According to gaming insider Tom Henderson, women’s football is set to receive a bigger stage in FIFA 23. Until now, only the women’s national teams were represented in FIFA – now clubs are set to be included as well.
Among others, the following leagues are set to be included:
- The English FA Women’s Super League
- The German Women’s Bundesliga
- The National Women’s Soccer League from the USA
- And the D1F from France
More new players: Not a league or a club in this case, but new licenses could land in the game due to the upcoming World Cup, which could also lead to some new players.
According to Donk (via Twitter), all participating national teams are set to be included in the game. This would also apply to the currently missing African teams:
- Senegal
- Cameroon
- Morocco
- Tunisia
- Ghana
However, it is possible that these will only be included as part of a World Cup mode in FIFA 23.
When FIFA 23 will be released is still uncertain. Nevertheless, more and more information regarding the new installment of the series is emerging. You can find an overview of the FIFA 23 release and all leaks here.
